Where does your dog sleep at night
Hi
Our dog has taken to sleeping in the same room as us. We don't mind this, however people who don't own dogs seem to think this is discusting. Is this bad? Where does your dog sleep. In the bedroom, or another place?. Thanks James |

they have open reign of the house but they mostly sleep with us.
One between the wife and I and one at the foot of my wifes side. They both alternate to the floor and back and if I get up early they follpw me down and hang on the couch or chair. They are only crated when we go out or for special company. |

The key phrase you used here is..."people who don't own dogs...." My GS sleeps in the bedroom with me. How is that disgusting? How is it bad? Keep in mind, I'm not being a snot, I just think its funny. People who don't own dogs think things are gross that the rest of us find normal. If it doesn't bother you, then who cares what anyone else thinks? Its your house, and your dog, if you are fine with it, I don't see a problem here. LOL

Yup, so far everyone who I have mentioned it too who does not have a dog say it's wrong and dirty. We have a couple of people coming to stay in a few weekends time, and I think they will pass a funny comment ot two. The dog tends to lay on top of the bed, and in the mornings wants to get inside the bed. It doesn't bother us though. James |

LOL...I have those same issues with my family...they think I am a total nut-bar for having dogs in the house, not to mention letting them sleep in the bedroom. There are several of us who know exactly what you are going through!! I look at it this way, it keeps those "non dog lovers" out of my house!! LOLOL

My dogs have their own bed, and that's where they sleep at night. If we let our dogs roam the house at night they wouldn't get to sleep, and would be unsettled. They like their bed.

My Doberman sleeps on his dog bed on the floor next to my bed. I wouldn't mind him sleeping in my bed....he's clean enough, short hair, but sheds a little. (I do like clean sheets) But I'm not that particular. But the main thing is that he takes up too much room and will go broadside across the bed (I know from past experiences with him) and I get super hot sometimes at night and he'd just make it worse.
My Chi's normally go in their crate or on the couch to sleep. Occasionally, I'll let them sleep with me but it's the same thing....they put out a lot of heat even though they're small and well.....like MrsGrubby, I'm a light sleeper so I just sleep better without the dogs right there too terribly close. I see nothing wrong with anyone sleeping with their dog as long as they're not having behavior problems. It's an individual thing and like Bigdoglover said, who cares what anyone else thinks. We have dogs for our companionship and that's just one more way of being companionable. Good heavens! (as an aside) Think of the Arabian Beoduins....they use to bring their Arabian horses into their tents to sleep with them at night...kicked thier wives out of the tents to make room for their prized and beloved horses. This is true and this is why these horses are far and above more personable, people loving, gentle and more intelligent than most breeds. Their gentle treatment wound up programing their genes to be this way. This is a generality, but the tendancy is strong. And experts attribute this to their beginnings with these people who absolutely loved and doted on these horses. So....if you have a horse, you might consider bringing him into your bedroom at night along with your dog. ![]() |

Sammy sleeps on a dog bed in our room or on the floor next to my bed. Rosie sleeps in a huge crate in our room (she's not totally reliable with peeing in the house yet)
They are both happy to go to their beds at night and do so without being asked as son as we all go to the bedroom. I'm all for dogs in the bedroom - just not in my bed. |

I don't know if I"ll ever be comfortable sleeping with one of my dogs...I have tried it before...and I did NOT sleep well..I couldn't fall asleep, and then I kept waking up throughout the night...I was SO afraid I'd squash her...and she wasn't even small!

My dogs usually have free roam of the house to sleep wherever they choose. Sarge and Sheiba usually sleep with me. Denali sleeps with my mom. When they were pups we would crate them until they were able to be trusted to sleep through the night.
It's funny because the people we sent Lilly with, her grandmother came down and HATES dogs unless it's a toy poodle. She says that Lilly is disgusting and that because Katrina plays with her that she's going to make her mean. People like that make me laugh... ugh. LOL |

Usually Bud sleeps in his crate next to the bed, Kino sleeps on the couch.
though I do have to tell this story. The night before our wedding my husband stayed at a friends house and I stayed at our house. My two bridesmaids stayed at the house with me, and the two dogs. The second I crawled into bed Kino jumped in with me. I figured it was just because someone was sleeping on the couch. He then proceded to push me to the opposite side of the bed-putting himself between me and the door. Every time one of the girls in the living room sneezed, coughed, or a noise happend outside he was perked up and keeping watch. He was a very protective dog that night. He acted like he had to take care of he since my hubby was gone. I guess when my husband is there he feels its ok to relax and let him protect me, but with him gone it was his job. I do still find him sleeping on the floor next to me once and a while-always between me and the door. |
