Talking Do DOG's Purr?

Okay, this is a CRAZY question but I have to ask it because I think my dog makes a similar noise to a cats purr . I posted a thread about 2 weeks ago because I thought My 7 month old ACD growled at me when I was on the floor with him giving him belly rubs and kisses on the head But it turns out for all that responded to my thread "he growled at me"! That he is making a noise but not a growl when he is happy and excited. This dog also greets me with smiles when I leave and come back from being out. ACD's are such clowns and very acrobatic and are very affectionate to there people. I'm glad it wasn't a growl because his temperament is wonderful and I wouldn't expect that of him. Does anyone else's dog or dogs make funny noise's that may sound similar to that of a purr?

my dog kinda does something weird and similar...When it's tired, or just got settled down, and you pet it, it makes a deep kind of sighing type noise..like mmmmmm....but real deep, adn then if you make the same noise, it'll do it again, and you can keep goin back and forthe for a while.lol

My bullies "purr" often when their happy, one of our pups, Mickey used to even change pitch! LOL All you had to do was scratch his sides and move back and forth from his shoulders to his tail. We used to call him our little accordian boy.

My dogs moan and groan when receiving attention... and yes, I can see how someone might mistake it for a growl at first, as it is quite low and gutteral. It's not a continuous as purring can be, but it's pretty dang close for a canine

Yep! Shadow does a deep groaning when I come and give him some loving, it really is cute. It just sounds like pure contentment!

My Winston will purr. When he's really relaxed, I'll ever so lightly just barely rub his chest, and also massage his jowls.. his eyelids drop, head hangs, and he purrs. LOL
