What do you do with your dog when you go on vacation?

Priscilla is so used to me being around most of the day that I can't imagine having to leave her. When I can't take her with me, do you recommend a twice a day dog sitter or a fancy dog spa?

Personally I have yet to see a kennel that I felt Shelby would do well in so I opt to have a friend come and stay with her. She will just sulk in my bed for the week depending on who it is, but at least she is some where she is comfortable w/ someone she knows. The key is what you think she would best with. If you get a feeling that your pup will not do well in a kennel or spa, then don't use one. Can you maybe find someone willing to come house sit and watch her as well??

If its a vacation I can take them with me on- I do.
I just recently went on my Honeymoon to Hawaii and couldnt take the boys with me. So I had my best friend and maid of honor stay at our house. My mother would stop over on her lunch to check on them, my friend was in the house every evening with them.
A few things went wrong but thats just cuz im super pickey. But they survived, I certainly felt better with her here. I would NEVER kennel them.
Kino has a fear of small spaces, Bud would feed off that and be upset too.

petsmart in some locations now has something called the pet hotel..It's not a kennel, it's like them being at home. The people are with the dogs 24/7 and they have beds for the dogs instead of kennels. It's pretty cool. Go to the petsmart website and look around, you'll find it.

We are going away for almost three weeks this summer on a mission trip. We too have to make this decision and are trying to find someone to come stay at our house with Jasmine. I think she will be happier in her house, her fenced in yard, and her kennel.

I'm not happy with kennels, but that's just my opinion. We take our dogs everywhere we go but I would like to go to Spain so bad, but I don't want them to stay in quarantine either. If we do decide to go, we will leave the girls with a friend or family member here at the house. We usually do have someone house sit while were gone anyway, but right now I can't part with my "hairy-legged" kids.

When we have gone on trips lately we spend a good portion of the thinking how much we wish we could have brought Shelby. So from here on out all of our trips will include her. Plus there are a lot more pet friendly hotels out there now then there was before. If we could just convience airlines to allow us to bring our dogs in the cabins...

Tia stayed at home with Don, when I was gone a week, last year.

I think I will only go to dog-inclusive destinations in the future.

I'm also going to see if the people who own the vacation cabin I manage, will allow dogs under certain situations, so I can have friends with dogs, come for visits!

That would be a blast!

I know, that is the best sceniro, and we usually do that too, but there is no way it is possible sometimes. Like this mission trip, we are going to a third world country, and while it will be unsafe for us, it would be even unsafer for our dog. They would never allow her in the small village we are going to.

Vacations she goes, work like this, she must stay home.

If I'm travelling more than 150 miles away from home, Mazie's coming with me.. I'm planning a trip to Arizona this summer and trying to figure out how to get down there with Mazie.. I refuse to stick her on a plane in cargo and a bus is questionable.. So far, I'm limited to driving there, which is okay with me except for one thing.... I don't have a car..lol.. I suppose I could get her certified as a guide dog and get her on the bus or train....Hey, I'm legally blind without my glasses, so why not? LOL

I take Jesse with me and if I can't...either my father stays with him or I don't go. IF there was something important I had to go to and I was to be gone a while, and couldn't take Jesse with me. I would put him in a kennel (after I'd checked it out thoroughly) although I wouldn't like it.

Cass.

We are going to Kyrgyzstan, a tiny country in central asia to build Habitat for Humanity homes. We will be in a small village with no running water and no flushing toilets for two weeks. Americans are pretty rare there, but the Kyrgyz people love it when they come.

We will be helping to mix mud and straw and pressing it to make the bricks, then we will use the bricks to build homes.

We are traveling with an American couple that worked for Habitat over there a few years ago.
