How about a coonhound? They are great dogs and a really nice size...not too big and not too small They are awesome dogs! I am from IL too and there are quite a few in the shelters around here, in fact, just yesturday I was at the local humane society taking food in and they had a GORGEOUS bluetick coonhound there...it was a little girl and she is only 2 yrs! But anyways, they are great dogs. Good luck with finding a dog!!!!

Weimaraners and Vizslas are beautiful, but if you like Dobermans, maybe you'll like the German Pinscher (sometimes called Standard Pinscher), which looks pretty similar to the Doberman, and is about 40 pounds.

Ahhh I'm partial to the toy breeds. Get a shih tzu or a Yorkie! lmao!

I have a soft spot for the Port. Water Dogs, they look exactly like my old dog Beni. It's almost scary how close they were, but Beni was a poodle/lhaso mix. I love Dobermans as well, but too big for me. Beautiful dogs though!

Cass- I have only met gordon setters and they were a bit larger then what I am looking for in my next dog, but would def think about getting one down the line.

Polly - thanks for the info, and that is a great picture you have in your pictures

Mellie - There is some sort of Vizsla rescue around here, but I do not know much about the breed I will look into them though.

Shan - Not saying that all the ones I have met haven't been great dogs, I just know Shelby would get frustrated with a dog more interested in a ball then her

annie - they are another breed I have little experience w/, but I will look into them more.

J_A_IT - I just found out that breed existed not too long ago, and even though I think it is possible that Shelby might be part German Pinscher I have not seen many of them in local shelters/rescues.

Tif - That is my g/f's next dog so there will already be a yorkie running around
