an interesting discussion with vet
I have read so many threads about cruelty to animals f orlthe betterment of a food product.
So I asked my vet who is one of the most respected vets in NSW if it was true that they injure animals to see how they respond to certain products. The reply was this. We are a huge teaching hospital yet we are not allowed to take a sheep that is about to be slaughtered and euthenase it for the purpose of showing out students how to do it properly. Which would be a far nicer way to die than having its throat slit while standing in a slaughter yard ![]() Any operational procedures done in the hospital are all done on stuffed animals. The laws for animal protection are so tight and people like all of us here get so enraged about animal abuse of any kind that he is at a loss as to how a huge company would ever get away with such procedures as I had described. So do we have actual facts?? Or is this a story put out by people like PETA??? |

I would say that some of the stories put out by PETA, or any other fanatacle (sp) group like them are probably extremely exagerated. The real story is there somewhere, you just have to wipe away all of the "smoke" to see it.
I have heard of people who will donate their pet to a learning hospital, if it has a terminal illness or is to be euthanized, in order for the students to learn and also for the vets to have an example of the disease to use for research. As for the other stuff, well, the only real way to tell is to have someone (media or otherwise) who is well respected and trusted to go in with the hidden cameras and then we could get the real story. I coulda sworn that there is a lady on a pug forum I'm on, that has had to do procedures on cats and dogs, then euthanize them, as part of the teaching/learning process.
In pugs, PDE is a growing problem. It's awful, and it is terminal, and so owners who's pug has died from PDE are encouraged to donate the pug to have the necropsy and have it's brain tissue looked at in hoping to find a cause and a cure. So I really do not think it's all done on stuffed animals. |
