Bad day/stupid people
Hi guys, just had a bad day yesterday and needed to vent with my friends.
Some of you know that my two foster puppies got adopted last Sat while I was working at the rescue, and so did a 5 year old mini poodle male. Tuesday another litter of puppies came in, four puppies, and their momma dog. I took two puppies, and the lady who adopted the mini poodle took two. (she had done a long interview at the time she adopted the poodle and said she was dying to foster as well, had a huge house, huge yard ect.) Yesterday the puppies all got spayed/neutered. I was on my way to pick up my two puppies from the vet and got a phone call from the director of the rescue. The other lady, called, she would not be going to the vet to pick up her puppies, and by the way, she would also be returning the poodle today. So I ended up with all four puppies last night. These puppies are already 10-12 weeks old and are going to go up for adoption next weekend, so it's not like the lady was going to have them more than 10 days, but she only kept them 3 days. And the mini poodle was for her daughter and the daughter loved him, just loved him, but she only kept him a week. Anyway, the whole thing really ticked me off. But for now the puppies are all here and of course getting much love and attention, but my gosh, what is wrong with people?!?!?!? |

She may have been "dying" to foster but did not realize what huge committement that is! Whether it's 10 days or 10 years,it seems to me you have to give it your all, puppies take alot of time and attention. Thank goodness the pups are with you MrsGrubby at least we know they will be loved ( and maybe spoiled a little bit, hmmm!

Sounds like she bit off more than she could chew. I've never been able to understand a rescue that allows first time fosters to take on more than one dog or pup. They can look awesome on paper and be wonderful all the way around when your speaking with them but when push comes to shove and the real work begins, we all know it takes a special kind of person to do what you do.
It's a shame she didn't work out but I'm glad it was only three days instead of longer when that poodle had a chance to really settle in. Still a shame but at least she was bright enough to know when to throw in the towel instead of having things go from bad to worse. I guess thats the only little ray of sunshine in that story. Thank you once again Mrsgrubby for taking on someone elses responsibility and giving those dogs a fighting chance for a new forever home! ![]() |

Thanks guys, I appreciate the support. Our rescue has a rule, no more than two dogs/puppies at a time. With puppies it seems easier to take two rather than one because the puppies do better with one of their littermates.
In my experience I have never had two puppies cry at night, or cry when crated, but one always does. And with a fenced yard, the two play better than just one. So although many people do foster just one puppy at a time, I really do think that two is a whole lot easier. I don't really deal much with the other foster homes, but you can bet that if I am at the rescue today and she brings that poodle in, I will be having a talk with her. I just want to know what on earth is the deal. |

Wanting to foster and being able to deal with it are two different things I guess. Heart may be in the right place, but it might just be too much.. especially a couple of pups. But hey, like you said, they are safe and being loved with you and won't be there long, so WOOHOO!

Oh, what a tough day. Something definitely happened, I wonder what. Maybe the first time the puppy peed on the floor, the husband said, "Out". I know I have the tendency to take on things that I enjoy, and forget that someone else lives in the house too. He is usually super about everything, but everyonce in a while he puts his foot down, and 9 times out of ten, he was correct in doing so.
Not that I'm saying what she did was correct or good, but, there may have been other circumstances that we're not aware of... |

My friends mother had owned dogs in the past when the family were young but it's been a while. She's on her own now and has been thinking more and more recently of getting another and was on the verge of going down to the shelter to apply to home a dog.
My friend in the meantime got ill and ended up in hospital, so her mother took the dog in for a week. Now he is the easiest sweetest best behaved dog, but this week was long enough for my friends mother to realise she couldn't cope with a dog full time. Things she had thought wouldn't be a problem were, and she had forgotten how much time & committment a dog needs. Its a shame she won't be giving a dog a good home but its probably for the best. My friends mother says this unexpected week with the dog was invaluable in helping her do the right thing. I know there are crying dolls which help youngsters realise having a human baby isn't a walk in the park, it would be good if there was a canine equivalent. But, as mentioned already there may be all sorts of reasons why the dog came back. I believe fate plays a hand sometimes, especially when it comes to animal ownership. |

At least the lady did her turnabout quickly. Now those pups will have a better chance at a good start and a forever home.
I'm glad you do what you do for all those pups you've been fostering, Mrsgrubby...and I'm glad you are a member of GP, too! Give Jasmine a hug! ![]() |

Take Responsibility

MrsGrubby it is people like you who make people like me aspire to be a better person.
I pat myself onthe back for taking in a rescue, or doing home visits for the rescue I work with and then I read about you. You are selfless, I hear no back patting being done by you. You just do it. Well we are here to tell you that you ROCK. These dogs, the people who will come into thier lives and feel their love becasue of a second chance given by you, us here at GP...we are all so lucky to have you. Thank You MrsGrubby, you make a difference. What an amazing thing to be able to say about your life. You make a difference to so many. |

Thanks you guys for the nice comments. I really appreciate it, you almost made me cry.
The truth is I couldn't do it without all your help, and I mean it!!! Novel really helped me with the Weim puppies, Sayuri really helped me with a Shiba Inu, and several of you have helped me with my own dog Jasmine, (Carrie, Kit, RBW, and several others). I know many of you do the same thing I do, foster, foster, foster, and you all make such a difference too, and together we all save alot of animals each year. I too wonder what happened to the lady, and I am not so upset now, but I was just shocked to be on my way to get two, and walk out with four. And of course they were all throwing up all evening and crying and such, and I couldn't hold them all at the same time. Plus I had the two who didn't even know me, and I wanted to make them feel better. I was just overwhelmed. The lady did not bring in the poodle today, so I am sure the director will follow up and see what is going on, and yes, i suspect it has something to do with a husband. Also, I took the two new ones with me today to the shelter because they were not doing well with potty training and I wanted to spend the day with them and while we were there, a really nice couple ended up taking and adopting the little girl puppy that lady had. Normally we don't adopt the day after a spay, but they had no other dogs, older kids, a crate, and lots of dog experience so after the interview it was felt that the dog could heal at their house probably better than at mine. so away she went. I will call in a few days, but I am sure she will be fine. So thanks again for all your support, I don't know how I functioned before I had so many great friends here on GP. You guys are the best! |
