Smile Maybe?

Well, we have been speaking with a lady, and she is in need of finding her husky a home. She's 3 months old, black/white/beige with two blue eyes. AKC, asking $550... I spoke with her and told her we couldn't offer her that much, but would be willing to give her $100 and she would be going to a wonderful home.

My mom and I talked it over last night, as Sarge is getting older, and really doesn't play with Denali anymore. Sheiba has just become miss snooty and only plays when she feels like it, so we thought if this lady does allow us to have her, that it would be a wonderful play mate for Denali. And not only that, it's a husky, so we are very familiar with this breed!

She wrote me an email explaing why she was giving her away. She thought she had a bacterial infection, only to find out she's pregnant, and I'm sure all of you Momma's know how certain smells make you gag. So she said the smell of puppy, the dog crate, and dog food makes her so sick. This pup was a Christmas gift from her husband, and their daughter has a husky as well, and thought they would make great playmates.

They had her boarded at their vet for two weeks and now their friend is housing her. They have twin 6 yr olds, and a 4 yr old. She's around children constantly and is said to do very well with them. She lets them know when she has to potty... barks at either the back or front door. She's also crate trained, but she's allowed to roam free in the house. They said she's a wonderful dog, but unfortunately, her body isn't allowing for this puppy.

I explained that our dogs go to the park twice a week, and are walked every evening, and are sometimes taken on my skates to get a good run. I'm home 90% of the time, and my mom is also. Our dogs are never left alone for more than 2 hours. We also have a fenced in back yard.

So I am waiting on a response from her. I told her we have 2 siberians already, great references, and she is more than welcome to contact our vet, and come to see the dogs. I sent her pictures of the crew, and she said if I was interested that she would send pictures of her at a few weeks old, and her parents.

I also let her know, that if she has another home who can offer her the $550 and they really need it that it was fine. But that we could offer her a great home, and don't want her to feel as though she would be going to a "cheap home" just because we are only offering $100.

So, waiting anxiously!! I will let you all know what comes about!

Thanks! Ugh, just waiting on the reply is killliiiinnnggg meee!

You do have to think to, that if she wants the dog to go to a good home, that money shouldn't be an issue. Hopefully she thinks about the dog needing a home rather than wanting the $550.

I can't believe she wants 550$ for this dog no matter how\old\nice he\she is. Did you tell her there's 1000's of Huskies in shelters around the country just waiting for a good home. She should be thrilled your willing to take him and provide a GREAT home. I can't belive someone bought a Husky as gift to someone else how stupid, it's not a like a DVD player\microwave for christs sake.

Sending Puppy prayers to you that you get the dog. The dog needs a great home and you have it. Annoys me when people worry about money like that. They can't care for a pet yet still want to make money for what they did or didnt do. I wish you the best keeping our fingers, toes and paws crossed for ya.

I've got my fingers crossed for you! It's quite possible that she put a bigger price tag to eliminate a multitude of calls from those who might not necessarily be a responsible caretaker.

The lady wants to give her up because she is preggo and can't stand the smell? She isn't going to be pregnant forever..that is the lamest excuse I have ever heard for giving up a dog.

Beyond the immediate pregnancy, you're talking about an infant with an almost 1-year old Husky (plus her other kids!). I don't necessarily agree with giving up the dog, but in all fairness, it will be better for the dog.

Keep us updated Icey! Can't wait to hear if you get her.

Thanks everyone! No word yet.. haven't seen them online at all today, so I don't think they've checked the email yet.

Poodlesmom - I can agree about putting a high price, but even sometimes people who have that kind of money to blow off will do it, and then the poor pup suffers in the end.

But yeah, $550 is way too much for us. We recieved Sheiba for free, because her previous owners said they didn't want someone else to pay for something that they had made a mistake on. They would screen calls through their answering machine. Most of the people that they got calls from were younger "thugs" that wanted her. They heard our message and really liked the sound of us. And things went from there... and now she's the little princess that she is

Ugh, this is nagging me so bad. LOL So hard to wait... hopefully they have the dog at heart and will consider us as a great home. If anything I'll tell them to make sure they find someone who has knowledge about huskies, as during this age they are quite a handful!

Here's the email I sent... I'd like your guys' opinions about it, and tell me if its a good "summary" to tell them a little bit about us.

Quote:
Well, $550 is a bit much for us. If you guys are desperate in finding her a home we can offer you $100. My mom has been out of work for a few months due to a recent hospital stay, so we don't have $550 to hand out right now. The best we can do is $100. I don't want you to think since we are offering that that we do not have the money to support her, but we do, and she would be going to a wonderful home.

We have two Siberians already. Sheiba is 3 years 8 months. She's very petite but so full of energy. Denali is 2 years 8 months and is such a bug! She loves to pester our boxer/German Shepherd mix, Sarge, who will be 8 this upcomming May. He used to play with Denali all the time, but now that he's getting older, he doesn't want much to do with her. They'll play, but only for so long. And Denali would LOVE to have a playmate. All 3 of my dogs are dog/cat/people friendly. We have a fenced in yard, and we take them to the dog park twice a week. They're walked just about every evening for a good 15 minutes, or I run the girls on my skates. They LOVE to go for a good run! Everyone gets a kick out of it, and they think I'm extremely brave for doing so! LOL

We have some neighborhood dogs that will get out, but come straigt to our house. One is a husky as well... unfortunately his owners don't understand his breed, and so he shows up here very often. But he loves to play with Denali. We just had to rehome a rottie that was good buddies with Denali, but she just needed to have one on one attention. She was not aggressive at all, she just wanted attention ALL THE TIME, and she constantly would "compete" I guess you could say with Denali and the others for human attention. She was in an abusive home before, and I think this caused her attitude to be so attached to people who cared. But she's in a good home now, and we are able to visit whenever we feel like.

We can give many references, one being our vet who is more than willing to give you the okay.

But, if you absolutely need the $550 and have someone who can offer that to you, then that is alright. But, we can only offer $100 right now, but she would go to a very lovely home. I will attach pictures of my girls and Sarge. We also have 3 cats... and I know that the huskies have that high prey drive, but we know how to teach them to leave the cats alone. Had to do that with Sheiba. But they all get a long great.

If you are okay with letting her come to us, you are more than welcome to keep in touch with me through phone, come and visit the house, or if you 'd like to meet up with us and see our dogs and our home, feel free to ask. I will be home all day as I am home sick from school, but you are more than welcome to call. Where abouts are you located? I am in Jupiter, and about 15 minutes away from a dog park.

Also, I'm 17 years old, Junior in high school. I'm home 90% of the time, and my mom is home all the time as well, unless she goes out for a bit to run an errand. The longest our dogs are ever left alone are 2 hours max. You can contact my mom or I anytime.

We would LOVE to take the opportunity to give your girl a good home. And please don't think that she would not be taken care of. She would be spoiled and loved just as much as the others.

I would love to see the pictures!
Thanks!
Sarah & Jennie
I also attached pictures of Sheiba, Denali and Sarge for her.
