Angry I'm so MAD!!

First I want to show you Boomer. These pics were taken 4 years ago.

Me and Boomer at the park.

Boomer watching the baseball game.

Boomer being, well BOOMER.

Ok, here's why I'm MAD !
A year after living together my ex and I got a Boomer from the local humane society. My ex didn't feel that shots were necessary, and that cheap bulk food was ok. He also didn't really care that he was FULL of fleas. I disagreed, so I took Boomer to the vet and had him put on advantage, kept him to date on his shots and fed him GOOD food. Boomer had a blast, we took him to the park and walks through the woods and never wore a leash, I had trained him extensively, and he was the perfect dog. Everyone in the town new his name, and were always happy to see him. He had been trained to ignore distractions and always have his full attention on me. Anyway, a year after getting him, I'd had enough of my ex's crap, in every way, things just weren't working out. So here came the arguement over who should keep the dog. I knew Boomer would be destined for trouble if he kept him, and I didn't want that. My ex insisted that his name was on the papers, so he was keeping the dog. I reluctantly backed off, and after cooling off we made arrangements that I could have him come stay with me every few weeks for the weekends (which was better than not at all). Anyway, within a few months, Boomer had fleas again, his coat was dull and flakey, he'd skipped his shots, his paws were cracked and raw and he was just looking overall in bad shape. I told my ex that if he didn't buck his ideas up I would call the humane society. So he did, and Boomer looked much better. About 4 months later, he lost Boomer (letting him out alone in an unfenced yard). About a week later he saw a man walking Boomer and said "hey, that's my dog"....and bought the dog back (the man thought he was a stray and spent quite a bit of money to keep him). Boomers stays here were ended when I complained again that he was not being taken care of and my ex even moved! Now, once again, he has lost Boomer. I just found out today from a friend of his, that Boomer has been "missing" for 4 months. I really don't know what to do, he could have lucked out finding a new good home, or been taken to the humane society, or hit by a car, or still lost and roaming free. Although it has been a while since I've seen him, I still love this dog, and I'm heartbroken that this has happened, AGAIN. My poor Boomer , I should have done something when it would have made a difference. Sorry, I had to get this out of my system.

I am so sorry that you are going through this. I will light a candle for Boomer. Its okay to vent, I would too if this was happening to me.

I really do not know what to tell you...

But I do wish you good luck with whatever action you take. Do not beat yourself up about this. You did try to help him...and he knows it. I wish the best to both of you.

I am soooo sorry, what a sad story. Hopefully Boomer is living in a good home with people who love him too, but I know that you feel bad. Just so sorry!

I am so sorry to hear this has happened

As Calgal said, hopefully he's with a good person and treating him well. If I were you when I had had him before he moved, I would have just went to the ASPCA and told them that your ex was not taking proper care of the dog, and explained your situation. They may have been able to help you.

But again, I'm very sorry this has happened. All you can really do is hope the for the best for Boomer.

I'm so sorry to hear about Boomer. You're free to vent here anytime you like. As far as your ex goes...some people should never be allowed to have dogs. That's so sad.

I know it's probably too late to get him back, but maybe you could make up a website asking people if they know where he is and if he's ok? Perhaps he is with someone who's taking care of him, it would be nice to see if you could find out.

Cass.

Like BDL said, maybe Boomer is on his way to you. Maybe another nice family has him, and maybe your ex knows where he is, but won't bother with getting him back this time.
If it has been 4 months, I doubt that Boomer is still out loose. He's most likely been adopted by a family that is or is not aware of his declining care being given by your ex. I'm sure it's all worked out for the best!

I'll keep him in my prayers as well - but my thoughts are along the same lines as Novel's. He's a gorgeous dog with what's an obviously standout personality - I also bet he's living the life of Riley right now with another family. I'm so sorry you had to go through this.
