Meet the newest weiner addition
This is Harley. She was resuced along with Lucy and 8 other puppies and adult dogs from a horrible breeder. I adpoted Lucy from the pound and my friend's sister adopted Harley. Harley needs medical attention on her back and front legs. Her back legs twisted while she was growing up so now her feet point in towards each other, when she walks or runs her back end sways back and forth really bad. It's hard to explain. Her front legs look like Lucy's so I am suspecting luxating shoulders or elbows. They aren't as loose as Lucy's though so hopefully they will be fine. Her back legs don't stop her from running and playing and she is super fast when she runs. Her butt and sides almost drag the ground when she turns corners but she is just as fast as Bailey...maybe faster!! Harley's owner never took her to the vet to see what was wrong. She knew there were problems but didn't want to spend the money to fix them. Another problem is Harley is not potty trained and she is over a year old already. That is how I was finally able to get Harley. I have been trying to get her for about 6 months now and her owner is fed up with the potty training and just gave her to me. She is already spayed and knows a few commands. She was not socialized at all as a pup so she is 10 times as shy as Lucy is. We are going to get her legs fixed first and then work on her social problems. I just want to let her settle down for a few days and then off to the vet we go.
These are older pictures from when I babysat Harley about 6 months ago. I'll get new pictures of her as soon as I can. My camera is on the fritz again. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

What a cutie! Kudos to you for taking her in and there is no doubt in my mind that she'll now be well taken care of and get the medical treatment she needs.

HUGE HUGS for you and all the Weiners! What a blessing to finally get little Harley so she can have the life she deserves. How are Lucy and Barrett taking to her? You have such a wonderful heart, and such lucky little dogs.

Bailey loves her already but Lucy is a little jealous. Lucy tries to force her way in between us so she can be closest. I am crate training Harley right now so I can work on potty training her. I don't know what I am going to do yet because my dogs are litter trained and Harley is somewhat outdoor trained. It looks like Harley will have to be crated until I can get her trained either way. My friend Margaret ( Harley"s owner's sister) offered to babysit her when I have to be gone for more than 6 hours. She has 3 dachshunds so Harley will have plenty of attention and play time. We are all going to the dog park in a bit to let all the dogs run around and get the extra energy out. Margaret wanted to take Harley really bad but one of her dachshunds is 13 years old and started having seizures a few months ago. She feels it would be better for me to have Harley so there isn't too much excitement on her older girl. We have a understanding that if Lucy does not except Harley, Margaret will take her and we will split the medical costs. I feel bad because Margaret and her sister are fighting about the way Harley was raised and cared for. I don't think Harley was physically abused and I know she got her vaccinations and was spayed. The owner just didn't have time for her and didn't want to spend the money for vet costs. I guess all that matters is Harley is happy and getting fixed. I am sure they will patch things up eventually. I just feel I am caught in the middle because I got Harley. My husband loves her to peices and wanted to call in sick to work so he could stay home all week to help them all adjust. I dropped him off at the airport this morning and now I feel a little scared to try the first week on my own.

A-w-w-w..that's great Barrett. I knew you were wanting her way back when. And now you finally got her. She is soooooooo very lucky to have you to take care of her. What a happy story. I can't believe how well Lucy was doing when I met her, after what you described her as being...so terribly timid and afraid. You've done miracles with her and you will with Harley too! Fantastical!

I'm so glad you decided to try and help this little girl. You can do it, I have faith in you. When your hubby comes back home he's going to be very impressed with the change in her. Glad she gets to go to Margarets and be around her dogums, and to the park to meet other fur-kid. With such a full schedule for her she will adjust in no time.
