Puppy Catastrophe
I posted a while back about my dads girlfriend inheriting a pregnant dog that the owners of the house she is renting left behind. We got the puppies out from under the shed and there are 5 of them
But for the life of us we cannot tell what they are.... the mother was already such a mixed breed, and we dont' even know what the puppies father was... so they are even more mixed. The mother looks like a German Shephard/Welsh Corgi something or other mix. I was just wondering with the puppies being such a mix what do you ask for when your selling them? We want to make sure they get good homes, but we are really not out to make anything. They will be getting there first shots, would it be appropriate to just ask for the price of the shots? We are just really leary of giving them away or asking to little and not knowing who they are going to end up with. Any advise? ![]() |

Maybe $50 or $100. You don't want to ask for to much as they are mixed breeds but you are going to pay for first shots so at least you can get your money back. But you don't want to just give them away either for FREE because god only knows who will take them. What if you guys write up a contract to make sure these pups get spayed/neutered or can your friend find a place that will S/N for low cost before you place them into homes. I just hope these pups don't end up reproducing more unwanted dogs in the future. Good luck

I think in their cases I'd spay/neuter them before they are rehomed.. some vets will do that at a young age. That insures NO MORE dogs from them. And then I'd turn around and see if I could get what the s/n cost, plus the shots... if possible.

That's a really good idea
I sure don't want those pups to produce more pups. I'll talk to my vet and see if he would be willing to do it, he's a great guy and puts animals first. He is just so caring. If he doesn't do the s/n early I will find out about doing a contract. Having a contract might also make the people who are not really serious about adoption think twice. Thanks guys ![]() |

I think a contract is a great idea. I dont care if it is a purebred or a heins 57 mix.....a pet is a pet and they deserve a solid future! Good for you!!

Do a home inspection for each of the potential buyers too. A lot of the people you don't want the pups to go to will NOT want you to come and inspect their home. It's one of the ways to cull the bad eggs from the good eggs. lol
You want to look at the place the dog will live (which should be inside, possibly with access to a backyard). Make sure that if the dog will spend any time at all outside, that it has a shaded, secure place in hot weather and a nice warm, sheltered place for cooler times. Beyond that, it's up to you to decide what is suitable and what's not. ![]() It sounds like a lot of trouble but it's worth it to find good forever homes for the pups. Cass. |

I think I will do that too Cassiepeia
Thank you.People are gonna think I am nuts doing this.. lol. Not to be mean, but you know how some people are all like 'there just mutts'. Makes me so mad. They are not just mutts! I really want to make sure they go to some good homes. Mutts or not, it should NEVER make a difference. |

I have never had to home pups but I have sold horses ans when someone comes to me asking to buy one I do a background check on them, I ring around people who know them and find out what sort of people they are, you can even arrange an inspection in a months time.
I hope you find loving homes for all these babies ![]() |
