Stupid dominant dogs (and their owners)
I hate it when dogs try to dominate Finn. They come up to us in the street and start humping Finn, even though he's extremely submissive, and they won't leave him alone. What I really detest is when the owners don't bother to call them off, they just look on quite happily until you glare at them. It happened to me today. A husky which was off-leash came up to us and sniffed at Finn. Finn wagged his tail and went to him on his belly. You'd think that'd be enough, but no, the stupid animal has to try and dominate him properly. So he jumps on him and tries to hump him. Naturally, Finn was scared out of his wits and tried to run away, but he didn't let him. I yelled at it at pretended I was going to hit it. But it didn't take any notice. Until I happened to look up and saw a woman walking towards us. She hadn't said a thing. As soon as she saw me looking she called the dog. But she had been looking on and she hadn't said a word.
Thanks for reading that. |

next time bring some "ladies fingers firecrackers" and toss a couple of lit ones near the dog. it won't hurt them and it will scare the other dog and thier owner. it will also scare your dog but, just be kind to yours and he will eventually get used to it. i did this once with a dog and it scared the owners, they thought i started shooting thier dog, when they came over and started yelling at me i explained the leash law and that if they decided to call the police i was defending myself from thier dog. it worked, they started walking thier dog on a leash.

My dads dog Bink is the same way as yours, always being jumped on. My dog Ky, he is not a very dominante dog by any means, but everytime we are around my dad's dog Bink he always bumps him. Everytime.
He never does this to any other dog, and ALL dogs seem to do it to poor little Bink. I think there is something about these particular dogs. It's been about a year since dogs started doing this. Bink is now 1 1/2. And he has finally just started standing up for himself. If someone tried to bump him now he gets right mad and tells them off. Maybe your dog will start to get tired of it to and begin to stand up for himself. ![]() |

I'm not trying to sound mean, but if you don't want other people's dogs by yours, you have to take the responsibility to keep them away. I don't have much compasion for other people's pets if they can't keep them away. Use the water, vinager, little "whipper snappers" as we used to call them. ( I never thought of those, but they could work)
Usually I just stand between my dog and theirs and tell the dog to get lost, that usally gets the owners attention and they come and do something. |

Sammy used to get humped at the dog park a lot so I have a few strategies:
If I see a dog we don't know approaching I generally call my dogs to me and have them sit and pay attention (this is easy because they are both so focused on the ball that I'm about to throw.) If the dog is being rude and humpy I position myself in between my dog and the rude one and say in my serious voice "hey! knock it off" or "get lost" If they don't get the message and continue to bother the dogs I will ask the owner politely to call their dog. If a dog actually get right onto Sammy's back I grab their collar , or collar and a bit of scruff and shove them off. It might sound harsh but they generally think twice before trying again. There are a few people we see off and on who seem to think it's just fine to have their dog humping everything in the park. I tell them Sammy has hip displacia (a little white lie) and would they please keep their dog off of him-- that seems to work better than anything else. They see us coming and go the other way. |

thats sounding just like my cousins dog, bowser, that dumb dog! me and lady can be walking down the road when the little monsters a coming at lady. i always raise my hand at him but, he just starts humpimg her! i grab his collar and throw him off of her and say shoo! lady usually growls at him and turns back at him and snaps him on the nose he then jumps on her and starts fighting but lady dont take it. ladys always submissive, she rolls over on her back. licks him in the face. crawls under him and whines. i think she does every thing, but its like hes just gotta hump her or he'll dy!!!!!!
coco's the father of ladys old puppies he always starts humping her and she bites him knowing he wont bite her back. hes never ever fought a female dog. if cocos with lady when bowser comes up to her she then the "dominant" and stands over him. bowser just lowers him self and licks cocos face but leaves lady standing. |

I hate it when dogs try to mount my dogs, first because of Jackson's bad hips if it is a bigger dog doing it it can leave him limping, and even before Shelb's recent bought of grumpiness she hates when another dog tries to mount her. Then the owners always get confused/angry when she gets snappy. Just b/c your dog was not the first to bite does not mean their behavior did not cause it.
