Started fixing up the yard.
Well, just after my surgery I had a couple of friends come over and roto-till part of my yard. Since I'm half and half when it comes to the dirt/grass ratio, I wanted to get re-seeding. The ground wasn't ready for seeding, so it needed a good mix first. Well, go figure...what happens? They cut through my phone line....HAHA. I was quite pissed about it at the time. The wire was only buried maybe 4 inches down....OMG. My dogs could've dug that up! But being nice friends, they went and bought some wire, fixed it up and buried it way deeper this time. What a time to lose the phone! Being here alone after my surgery, I felt lost without it, if anything happened, that was my only lifeline....HAHA.
Anyway, probably by next week I'll be able to get out there and actually put the seed down. So here's hoping I can get the yard back to being a pretty green again. And take better care of it this time...LOL. |

If you need hay..I got piles of it..full of nutrient rich chicken poo. Want some? Brit, I know this is your post , but since we're talking about yards, I need some help froom anyone...I bought a very neglected 150 yr old farm. It's taken a lot to clean up all the junk laying around. My major problem is I have this NASTY bamboo ( japanese Kill weed or mexican bamboo) The stuff is horrible. Its very aggressive and spreads like nobodies business. you can't mow it or it'll spread. i have tried bleach, I have tried vinegar,i have tried ortho, I have tried burning it. IT'S STILL HERE. Any one have any experience with this?

this is what you do, first you have to dig it up, or as deep as you can, do this when it is green with no seed pods, cut the roots down as far as possible, then take roofing tar and coat the roots with the tar, then bury up the hole. put the removed bamboo some place to dry out completely, should take about one month depending how hot it is. then put it in an enclosed burner and burn until nothing but ashes. this is what we did to yucca plants in california. these plants have a tap root that can be twice as deep as it is tall. the petroleum in the tar should kill the roots. |

ugghhh..that would mean I have to dig up around 400 plants. This is not just a couple. I am going to let you guys know right now. If I disappear from this website, my body has been taken over by strange pods from Venus, and there is probably an emotionless "duplcate' of me wandering around.

Fancychicken-
Boiling water? It'd be hard and hot work, but it's chemical free and usually takes care of my weeds. Otherwise, it'd probably be worth your while to hire someone with a small bobcat/backhoe (or rent one!) to dig that stuff up if it's as bad as it sounds. I hate those invasive, non-native plants. In my area, we're inundated with garlic mustard. At least I can just pull that manually! |
