Joules' Gotcha Day!

Well...one year ago tomorrow (5/12) I adopted my fur kid!

My bf and I (now we are 'x's) moved into an apt that allowed dogs. This was one of the main reasons we picked the complex and we decided it was time to get a dog. Well, we went from shelter to shelter to shelter. Me...I wanted to take home EVERY SINGLE dog I saw / met. Him, on the otherhand, had never had a dog before so was a bit scared / intimidated by the whole thing and kept dragging his feet.

We visited the Helen Woodward Animal Center (www.animalcenter.org) and looked at the dogs they had available for adoption. We saw Joules and decided to meet her and a couple others. The minute Joules came in...she ran right over and jumped into his lap and started licking his face. That was it for him...he was hooked.

We made the arrangements and a couple of days later I brought our fur baby home. At 9 mos she still had a lot of puppy in her and needed to be potty trained. It was a long process but we got a system down now. She was pretty neglected by her former owners...she has no socialization whatsoever and that is taking the longest to do. BUT...she has come a long way...now she can see other dogs and interact with them and not go totally berserk. I still have to muzzle her for the first few minutes at my 'rents house with their dogs...but I hope I won't have to do that for long.

I am so glad we were able to adopt her...or rather I was. She has brought so much joy into my life and with the breakup still relatively fresh she has been such a comfort. I can't imagine my life without her!

Congrats, We celebrate this day with Shelby too, since we do not know her b-day, we call it her A-day an go out and treat it like her b-day. Lots of toys, stuff, and treats.
