New home for pregnant dog

Hello..and here's my dilemna..and I'll try to make it short. I have been taking care of a female dog, named Bear, for friends. I have her with me for about 5 weeks. They adopted her from the animal shelter and had to take her right away because her time 'was up'. The friends are in the process of building a new home and weren't able to take her home right away so I have been keeping her at my house. We think Bear is pregnant and is due to deliver around the middle of October and we think this is her first littler. My friends will be ready to take her about 7 days before her due date. My question is: should she stay with me, where she is more familiar with my and her surroundings..or should they take her to her new home before her due date. On the plus side of the new home..they are better set up to manage a whelping..they have a nice warm area for her, no other dogs, and are more flexible in their work schedules. I have other dogs and although they have not extremely aggresive toward Bear, there are definitely some issues among her and the other dogs. Also I have limited experience with whelpings and would not be able to provide as good accomodations for her when the puppies arrive (although they would be in a warm and dry place.) Bear is a very friendly Lab or lab mix and I think she will bond with her new owners quickly. They have been by to visit her a couple of times a week so she is somewhat familiar with them. So...should she stay with me..or go to them. My friends and I want to do what's best for Bear and will make whatever's best for her work. Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Hi Gina! I'd pass on letting her whelp at your place. But there are experts in the "Breeding Concerns" Forum that can better answer your question.

Hi Gina. IMO, it would be best to go to her new home and have a whelping box ready and a place she can call her own, that way once the pups are whelped there is no stress of moving them. Also the new mother doesn't feel the need to defend her young with the other dogs. Best of luck.
