Anyone else have bad short term memory?? LOL

I am always driving myself crazy with this. Usually with car keys, I am always forgetting where I left them, and go insane trying to find them (despite the fact I have a key hook by the front door). Sometimes I get in quite a panic, like where else could I possible look?? haha.
Same with other items around the house that I was "sure" that's where they were. And go nutty trying to figure out why the measuring cup ended up in the computer room?
Even going for groceries and such, I'll forget where I parked. And at the local convenience store. I am constantly parking on one side and when I come out, I walk the other way when I come out. And have to do the "embarrased walk" back past the windows when I realize my car isn't there....LOL.
Somedays I'll find myself driving the way to work, rather than the place I was intending...doh And when I do finally get to my destination, I sometimes forget what I came for!
It's all so strange too. Cause when it comes to long term memory, I can remember stuff as far back as when I was 4 years old...and typically in great detail.
Anyone else have this problem?

I'm with you on that one. I can never find anything. Keys, drivers license, etc... however, I am very particular about my dog things, and they all have a proper place. I just can't learn where to put my stuff away! LOL!
I feel for ya hun...

I'm just like that, always loosing the keys. I get so worried as they carry everything on the keyring. Keys for the shed, front door, backdoor, garage, 2 work keys etc. I do it all the time, have to trace back my steps from the whole day!

I have a medical excuse now (**snicker**) caused by Fibromyalgia. It's called "Fibrofog".

What I did about my keys (I never could remember where I had put them) was get some carbiners, different colors, huge ones. Hang different keys (house, car, work) on different carbiners. They all hang on the drawer pull on my night stand, which is also where I empty my pockets when I get home from wherever.

When I need keys, I take the set I need and hang them on my belt loop. They get returned when I return home.

I even stopped carrying a purse when I kept leaving it places. Everything I need is in a thin wallet in my front pocket, same pocket/side from where I hang my keys.

Forgetting where I park. Yeah, every workday LOL I park in a deck and can be anywhere from the 3 to 6th floor any day of the week. I make it a point to look at the floor number as the last thing I do when I leave the floor and that's my mental cue to remember. On really bad days I write the number down on the back of my hand or something

Parking lots are different so almost 2 years ago I bought a car with one of those "where the heck is my car" thingies on the door opener. I've used it a few times and don't care that I walk through the parking lot in the general area with my arm in the air pressing that button

As far as getting to a room and forgetting why you went there...happens all the time, multiple times (seems when I get to the top/bottom of the stairs I remember then forget again when I traverse those steps.)

Bill Cosby had a remedy for that problem. Seems when he'd remember was when he'd sit back down again and he figured it was the "sitting" that triggered the memory. His solution was, grab your bum when you are standing in the middle of the room trying to remember why you're there.

ROFL! I've done this myself and sometimes I remember, sometimes I don't, but I always laugh and that helps me relax and I usually remember shortly afterwards

I don't have a terrible memory about where I put things, unless I haven't used that particular thing for a long time..then it's a full on search party that's needed to find it.
But I forget what people tell me, all the time. I can have a conversation with someone and at the end of it forget what they told me. Same with classes, at school I never remembered anything. lol If I don't write it down it disappears from my head.
However, if it refers to my writing or dogs in general I tend to remember it exactly. I can completely forget who someone is, but if I'm told what dog they had I remember their dog and by extension, them. Talk about priorities, right?
For my writing, I can remember characters, character backgrounds, quirks, town names, entire stories in full detail. So weird!

Cass.

I have the occasional moments, as we all do, but to this day everytime my dad cant find his glasses or wallet, I'm the first one they call when theyve run out of ideas.
On more than one occassion growing up my parents would look for hours for either glasses or wallet........I'd walk into the scene and find 'em first try.

I was in a serious car accident in 2001. I had head injuries along with numerous other injuries! I am lucky to be alive so I can live with not being able to remember things! I just write lots of lists...the only problem is that I have to remember my lists! I have a hook at the front door for my keys but still my husband doesn't trust me with his keys! The good thing is that I am always finding surprises around the house! Like when I forget that I bought something and then find it! Yipee! I even found $100 in my camera bag! I put it there on a trip and forgot about it! Or when you find that Christmas gift in the closet in July! Think how surprised my husband was when I gave it to him! You have to have a sense of humor! (And an understanding family!)

for everyone but pearlulm. you know that they say the memory is the first to go, especially when you're getting old. not that i'm saying anyone of you are old. that's just the saying.

I am in the process of moving and while I am packing things up I am finding all sorts of treasure I forgot I had or thought I lost.

I am famous for trying to put the cereal in the fridge and the milk in the cupboard. I also go on auto pilot while driving and wonder how I got to work or home. I have to do the alphabet trick to remember peoples names too. I have to makes lists, keep calandar books, make a specific place for everything in my house, and do many other tricks to stay organized. If I think of something I have to do I try and do it right away or I will get side tracked in a heart beat. I always have 50 things bouncing around in my head so my mind always wanders. I find myself thinking of things when someone is talking to me and I didn't hear a word they said ( very embarrasing ). I go temporarily deaf if I am thinking about something really hard so that people have had to tap me on the shoulder to get my attention. I really wish I could change that about myself but I can't seem to help it. My brain is always on overdrive.

I can remember anything I read though. I just have to read something once and it's stuck in my head forever. Reading is the only thing that can hold my attention and concentration perfectly.

I have a very good memory.. My mom calls me a walking phone book.. LOL.. I have my keys and license on me at all times... the keys only leave my pocket when I'm driving or changing clothes.. My wallet is on me at all times, so my license is too. I'm also particular about where I put my doggie things... For example: Mazie's leash goes on the piano... not on the table, not in the chair, and not on the floor... I put it on the piano because that's where I keep all of her other posessions; toys, treats, grooming tools, etc... But for some reason, every time I put the leash up there, it magically teleports to one of the aforementioned locations, and it drives me crazy... I spent 10 minutes one day looking for it and discovered it buried under a bunch of junk on the table.. the next day, I found it buried under the cushions of the chair... Then the next day, the couch decided it was hungry, so it ate the leash.... No one is brave enough to admit that they moved it, so they never say anything and blame it on my poor short term memory.. I don't really have a poor short term memory... I also don't have a short attention sp--- oooh, a tree!

I have that exact same problem... When I was in high school, I took a tech class and chose to do computer programming as my tech project. I also built the school's website, built an arcade machine, an 8 pound kayak, and a couple other things... But while I was programming, both a small game and the school's website, I got so into my work that I didn't even hear a word anyone said to me.. they had to literally unplug my computer monitor to snap me out of the trance I was in.. Apparently, I would talk while I was in the trance, too, but what came out made no sense to anyone.. I even missed the bell to go home once because I was in programming mode and couldn't get myself out... I'm one of those types who has to finish a project once it's started... I wanted to finish the page that I had started to work on that day... I managed to finish it... but when I did, it was almost 5pm and my instructor was still there, supervising the detention kids.. hehe
