Any Scuba Divers?
One of my best friends and her family and friends go scuba diving in Cozumel every year, have been for many years now and this March she's getting married. She chose to have her honeymoon in Cozumel and invited everyone along to go diving and have a good time. So as a bride's maid gift to me from her, she's paying for me to get certified this weekend to dive with them this spring. I went to Cozumel a few years ago and snorkeled while I was there and absolutely loved it. My friend, Jessica, says diving is a million times more awesome and wonderful.
I'm a little anxious and nervous about taking taking this class. The thought of diving in a murky dirty lake totally freaks me out. But apparently that's the only way to go around here. And since Jess is paying for it I can't complain too much! LOL! Has any one else here ever been scuba diving or wanted to? |

My high school offers a full Scuba certification class...I'm taking it after December...I'm looking forward to it.
Strangely enough, Colorado has one of the largest populations of SCUBA certified people...I still can't figure that one out. |

*shiver* You won't catch me going scuba diving. I can jump out of planes, go bungee jumping and hang-gliding but don't ask me to put my face in the water! LOL
My husband tried to get me to go snorkeling in mexico last year and it didn't go very well. I got to use a life jacket because I don't swim very well and that was fine but I couldn't get my face in the water and breath out of my mouth at the same time. I could put my face in the water and hold my breath for a few seconds, but when I did I would pull my arms and legs into my body and flip over. My husband laughed and laughed and kept stretching me out but a second later I would find my legs tucking up under me again. I didn't want a fish to touch me and I was scared I would see (or not see) a jelly fish. LOL |

How funny, Barrett. It surprises me that you can do all the other things and not dive. But then again, I guess I'm opposite of you in that I'll dive but I probably won't have willingly jump out of a plane! LOL!
None of that fish stuff scares me at all. Even knowing that there will no doubt be sharks and eels and manatees swimming all around with us, it doesn't bother me near as bad as diving in the scary scary lake. No one can convince me that there isn't a monster living at the bottom! LOL! |

Lol kjm! I feel the same way...I don't think I could jump outta a plane...but I wouldn't have a problem w/ all the water creatures(not that manatees are vicious...lol). I also have always been scared of the lakes...cuz you can't always see whats in the water w/ you.....maybe that monster does exist! o_O lol

UGH! I definetly won't go in a lake for a swim but I love to ride seadoos! I go as fast as I can and open the throttle to the stops. I feel brave because I am out of the water and I wear a life jacket. Once I was thrown off and landed in the water with the seadoo puttering away from me...I tucked my legs up under me as tight as I could and used my hands to paddle back to a friend who came to pick me up. Some "thing" might grab my leg and pull me under, maybe I saw too many Jaws and Piranha movies. It's like when I was a kid and believed a snake lives in my toilet at night..can't pee with the lights off of it would bite me in the butt! LOL

I completely understand that! Except my biggest fear isn't that something will get me but that I might touch the bottom of the lake with my bare hands or feet. I did that one time after I got thrown off a seado. It was really shallow there and I pushed up to surface not realizing how shallow it was and my feet touched the bottom of the lake. I almost cried it was so horribly disgusting. I didn't go back in the lake the whole day because it freaked me out so bad.
I'm a huge texture freak. There are a lot of textures or surfaces that creep me out just how they feel. Like I don't like to eat bananas because of the way they feel in my mouth, stuff like that. So feeling the muddy icky bottom of the lake was the ultimate gross out. I'm definitely wearing gloves this weekend when we dive in the lake. I won't go down there without them. I'd almost take on the lake monster before I'd touch anything down there! LOL!! |

Okay, so tomorrow is the first day of the class. I've been studying for my test the last couple nights and I hope I've got it all down. My friends will all be there this weekend to cheer me along, so that helps! I'll let you guys know Monday how everything went!
Hope I don't have a panic attack at the bottom of the lake!! LOL! |

LOL, You will do fine! My husband got his scuba cert when he was about 12 years old. I actually found out about this last night since I have never known him to scuba dive. He said the hardest part is you have to take off your mask under water and then put it back on and purge the water out of it by blowing air out of your nose. Good luck with your test!

Well, I posted about it in the Howl and Growl, but yeah that was pretty hard. It took me about 30 minutes to be able to go under the water without a mask and straight breathe through my mouth. I about bawled my eyes out the whole time I was doing that. The purging wasn't so bad because you just slowly exhale until you have the regulator back in your mouth. I just hated the water getting up and in my nose and not being able to just pop up out of the water and get rid of it. I figured if I panicked at 15 ft in a pool, I probably wouldn't do so well at 80 ft in the open water.
But thanks for thinking I could do it! I guess now I know it just wasn't for me! Maybe now I'll try skydiving, Barrett!! LOL! |
