Exclamation I'm being overrun by rodents!

Geez! I just can't say no....ack, that is going to get me into trouble one of these days. A gril from school had gotten a Hamster for Christmas and no longer wanted it, so she asked me if I wanted it. I didn't want it going to the shelter or to be used as snake food, so I told her yes. So Lola has come to live with us! lol She is a short haired fancy brown hamster. Quite cute, but not handtamed yet. I gave her to my brother because he has been dying to have a pet for the longest time and I know that he'll take care of her. So far she has only escaped three times in the three days we have had her. The last time Casey was the one who found her...she was running around my sis' room and all of a sudden she hissed and came running out of a toy barn with her tail all puffed up. So now I know how to find a loose hamster...set the Ferrets loose! lol

So far four of our rodents are rescues. Bonnie and Clyde (my dwarf hamsters) are from another girl at school who brought them in for extra credit, and then basically gave them to me. I didn't want them to be fed to the tarantula (some kids in my class thought it would be funny) so I stepped in and took them. And people know not to mess with them now or I'll kill them. lol They are now here for the summer and will go back to school in the fall.
And then Lucy was the poor neglected G. Pig who lived in a cage full of poop and was being fed cat food. My mom and I saved her from being released into the wild. *shakes head*
Freddie (my sis' hamster) is the only rodent we have that we actually elected to get.
I told my mom I think I'm going to have to start a rodent rescue...because since I like rodents and nobody else does, people just dump them on me. Yey. I'd hate to see what would happen if somebody offered me a kitten or a dog....Geez.

So that now brings the grand total too....:
4 Hamsters
1 Guniea Pig
1 Budgie
2 Ferrets
1 Cat
3 Dogs
-------------
Total of 12 critters! Yikes!

Well thanks for taking all these poor animals in. And thanks to your parents who keep letting you do it.

LOL, I know EXACTLY how you feel. When I lived out in the county I had a LOT of pets too. But moving to the city to rent I had to rehome most of them.
At one point I had 23 rats, 5 mice, 4 chinchillas, 2 guinea pigs, a tegu lizard, 3 cats and 2 dogs...OY! I was a very busy gal...haha. Funny thing was, apart from the lizard with the rats and mice (for obvious reasons...lol), all of the pets got along great. I wish I knew how to get a vcr tape clip onto the computer! I have a great short video of Bandit (my cat when he was 6 weeks) and Moose (one of the guinea pigs) playing. It's really funny to watch.

Although I think my mom is about ready to hang me by my toes from the ceiling if I bring home yet another rodent. lol
But yep, I think the little buggers are pretty happy and fortunate. I think it is funny because my mother who vowed to never have one of those "enlongated rats" (ferrets) and thinks that Hamsters are the closest thing you can get to a mouse without it being a mouse (and she hates mice) now has six of her dreaded pets living with her! lol

Ritz, you're such a compassionate person! You sound just like me.. if I had the chance (and space) I'd take in all the animals no one else wanted. The only rodents I've had as pets were mice. It's unfortunate that they don't live for very long, but the oldest mouse I had lived to be 4 1/2 years old.. pretty old for a mouse!

Here are the last mice I had as pets. Meg (black and white) and her daugther, Paper Tiger:

What cute mice! I love the first ones markings. I've always liked mice and fancy rats, but if I had to battle with my mom for a year just to get a Ferret, I don't think she'd let me buy a mouse or rat. Besides, I'm not going to willingly go out and buy another rodent for a long time. lol I'm up to my chin with pets right now. lol
