memories

When we got Emma 19 years ago we called in to see a friend and his first remark when he saw this 3" of sweetness was to say "oh you got yourself a time waster"
I was horrified but the years have passed by and his children used to come to my place to see emma but were never allowed to have a pet
The end results speak for themselves as his family is totally out of touch with each other ,have no bonding or compassion.

My girl was a hard case as a child but our constant pet ownership taught her compassion and care for other living creatures, i also believe it helps form a lasting family bond as well.

My "timewasters" have given me some of the greatest pleasure a person could ask for and honest companionship, someone to love when I have felt lonely or sad.
All I can say is thank God for giving us these precious "TIME WASTERS"

I totally agree Linnie!

It is his loss that he has never experienced the unconditional love that our furpals give us. Their companionship & love for us is not contingent upon their size.

I agree Linnie and I feel sorry for that family. Sadly I know of some friends who are like that, distant with family.. Thank goodness my parents LOVE animals or else I fear how I would of turned out.. I guess I'm glad I'll never know.

Funny thing....I grew up in a very disfunctional home, and the only thing that got me through was our mutt. Shelty/BC mix, named Lady. Time waster? I think she saved my life.

Cheers to memories!
Links in kind of well with the recent "just a dog" post.

I feel sorry for people who never want a dog to join the family. They will never know what happiness truly is!

The dogs and cats I had growing up got me through. They were always there to listen when no one else was.
I gave my children the same "friends" growing up. And they are all very compassionate. Some years with the kids were hard, and I truely believe the furkids helped them make it through their rough times.
I, too, feel sad for people that never get to have the unconditional love that we have all enjoyed.

This man has a poor view of god's creatures, I'm afraid. I too have had pets all my life, coming from a farming background, it was the cats and dogs we had that kept me company during those hot summer days. My old pooch was my constant companion and always kept an eye on me.
I still remember my Mom telling me that, when my brothers were small and into everything, it was our old dog(a cross of some kind) that would run home and warn my mother if the boys were playing in the pond! That was a big no-no since it was so dangerous.
Sorry for the ramble, all this to say that no time is ever wasted when you love your pets...they return it 100% and keep us sane!

They might be "time wasters" sometimes, but they sure are "life fillers"!

I can't imagine not having at least one pet in my life. They give you comfort and somebody to talk to. I'm on they shy side and I don't know how many times either my dogs or my ferrets have been the icebreaker that I needed to get to know somebody. Thank God for animals!

I was raised in a family that didn't have any pets. Parent's hate animals. It wasn't until my(1st) huband was killed in an accident that I got my first cat.I got her because I NEEDED something. (Started small...lol) I still have Cleo to this day and with out her...well...I wouldn't have made it through. She is my heart and my little " Cleo Kitty" Now I have a whole herd of animals, I cannot imagine my life with out them. The each hold a special place with me and always will. i agree "time wasters" NEVER! There is no explanation for people who haven't had the love of an animal, or loved one themselves, they will never understand
