Fuzzbutt attack

I really want to be a puppy raiser for a seeing eye group or whatever but I don't know any orginizations. I've always had an interest in trianing dogs for Blind or Disabled people. Anyways, does anybody know any orginizations I could contact?
(I REALLY want to foster dogs for our pound or a breed rescue but Mom won't let me....) |

Cool. Tell us what you find out. That would be really neat. I'd personally have a terrible time giving up the dog. I know....that would be selfish. It's a wonderful thing to do to help these people and it takes some strength. Can't wait to hear what you learn.

Yeah.. It would be a fun thing to do, I considered it before I got Ripley and considered it again before I got Dakota, but I'd like to finish raising my OWN puppies and learn some 'tricks' of my own before I raise a potential service dog. Let us know how it goes, Ritz.

I checked out the Guide Dogs for the Blind website that you have posted, but GDFTB only goes in the Western states. Are there any orginizations that are near Indiana? Yeh, giving up the dog would be hard but since it is for a good cause I might be able to

International Assn. of Assistance Dog Partners. http://www.iaadp.org/ Also, Ed and Toni Eames (very well known in Asst. Dog circles) have a new book out. I don't remember the title.

I did that. That's how I ended up with Judge. He was a foster puppy for a local organization that trains seeing eye dogs, dogs for the deaf (as he was supposed to be) and special skills, for people in wheel chairs and the like. We are still involved with them although for the last year and a half Judge has been our pet, he was too hyper to complete his training. Try doing a broad search on the web. We intended to get another foster puppy if Judge passed but he didn't but we still do the occssional fund raiser.
It was hard to give him up, but like you said it's for a good cause. The people these organizations help are using these dogs to lead a better life and it's nice to be a little part of that, or would have been if Judge had actually passed. |

I'm currently raising a puppy for Guiding Eyes for the Blind (www.guidingeyes.org). They have puppy raisers over on the eastern side of the US, since their school is in New York. I'm not sure if the puppy raising program goes all the way out to Indiana, but you could check. Guiding Eyes uses mostly Labs (I'm raising a little yellow Lab puppy named Trish), but they also use some German Shepherds and Golden Retrievers.
