A letter from your dog (Poem by yours truely)

(I don't normally write poems of my own but here lately I've felt like it...this is inspired by many other poems and the sight of the poor dogs in the shelter...God speed sweet furbabies...)

Dear owner,

You were once the world to me, so many ages ago.
It's seems however you've changed you're mind
decided it's time I go. What happened to the happy times.
The times when you would play fetch with me and give me love.
I've tried to understand it but for the life of me I can't.

You brought home what you said was a brilliant little bundle of fluff.
you cared for me and played with me oh how I miss it so much.
I miss your sweet touch which has been replaced with cold hands of steel.
I'm starting to get thin now but you say I eat to much.

You can't afford a dog anymore and after all that's all I am.
So here I go down the row of cages into my very own pen.
These kennels here they wreak of death and oh how worried I am.
An old dog they say may not make it in this cruel world today.

So when it was my turn to walk death row I couldn't help but wonder.
why would someone buy a pup if they couldn't take care of it.
My life has been a hard one, you made it that way.

But now on a cold hard bed I lay my head to rest.
I've crossed the rainbow bridge and now here I wait.
No not for you I'm sorry to say you've broken my heart eternally.
I'm waiting for the sweet woman who cried when she held me in her arms and said. I hate to do this I wish I didn't have to it's only my job. She patted me and treated me kind, ended my suffering and now it's time to start again...here at the rainbow bridge.
