Sorry but can't resist
What were the American's on when voting for their new pop idol Now he seemed to be a lovely guy, but his voice wasn't exactly the most impressive and there were people who were much better! Though there again I can't say anything as we in the UK voted someone in a couple of years ago who was just a one hit wonder! |

I think Taylor was a great choice. And true, I wouldn't say he was the best singer, but his overall package really was the best. I think to be classified as an idol, it takes more than just the voice (not that he's a bad singer by any means). He really deserved to be the idol. If anything, he is a great role model. A guy who refused to dye his grey hair cause that just wouldn't be him, didn't care that on occasion his dance moves looked like he was having convulsions, and he just had a BLAST out there. It was almost like he just couldn't hold in all that joy he gets from singing. He's just one of those "you get what you see" kind of guys, no "bull" of trying to pass himself as someone he's not. There were a couple of others that could've pulled it off too, but to be honest, most of the top 12 get a recording contract anyway, so picking the overall package for the idol really is what I like to see.

Yes, there were some better *singers* in the competition, but I don't believe there was a better entertainer out there. |

I agree regarding looks, movement etc, as let's face it we have a few idols out there that aren't the best looking best movers etc, but I have to say that they do have the fantastic voices to go with it.
Barry Manilow (goes in hiding after admitting that I really like him) Elton John Barbara Streisand (boy I can't spell today) Even Madonna, although I think she looks so much better as she gets older. But I'm sorry I can't see Taylor surviving as long as the few that I've mentioned above. Maybe in another field though as he did seem a really genuine guy. |
