And the prognosis is poor at this time, this is really hard on me. My aunt raised me for about four years during my teens. She was having bad pain in her hip and occupational therapy wasn't working so they gave her an MRI, found a tumor in her hip, treated it with radiation and then found spots on her lungs. It has now spread to her lower back with numerous tumors there. Her first doctor was a total idiot. She was just put in the hospital for dehydration and 300+ blood sugars (she's diabetic), while there a new oncologist on call saw her and basically told her if they didn't start chemo right away she would only have 2-3 months left. With chemo her chances may be better but it all depends on how she reacts. It's really tough because the radiation made her really sick and she's scared that the chemo will make her even more sick.
Life sucks..... |

I know what you and your aunt are going through because my friend is dyeing of bone cancer and it's tearing me up too.
I doubt very seriously the chemo would do your aunt any good at this point. She's just too far gone. The chemo just speeds things up instead of killing the tumors anyway. If you need to talk, then this is the place. There are so many sweet and careing people on this board. |

Oh, I am so sorry to hear about your aunt. I get so frustrated when doctors miss important medical issues. I know the human body is complex, but we are putting our lives in their hands!!!
My heart is just breaking for you. I am so sorry. Please keep us posted on how she is doing, also as suggested above, try to get involved in a prayer group. So much can come out of that, peace, relief, healing, and even prayers that your aunt won't have pain during treatment. I will say a prayer right now!!! |

Thanks for all the well wishes. I spoke to her tonight, was planning to go visit tomorrow but she doesn't know if she is up for it. She went into the hospital two days ago due to vomiting and dehydration. They put her on some IV fluids to help get her electolytes and such back to normal and though that would help with the vomiting but unfortunatly even with the anti-nasuea meds she is still sick. They are going to run some additional tests tomorrow, check out her stomach and such to see if she may have an ulcer.
It was so hard on Sunday when the Doctor came in and broke it down for her. She asked if the chemo would be worth it, he was very honest and said that if the treatment became worse than the disease they would stop the treatment. She was so strong during the whole explanation but when the doctor asked what goals she had for down the road she cried and said she wanted to see her granddaughter graduate and she knows that won't happen now, Courtney is only twelve. I'm glad I was there when he was talking to her since I have a medical backgroud so I had all sorts of questions and could explain things to her she didn't understand. I just can't get over the fact that her initial oncologist didn't bother to tell her how serious things were, didn't even offer the chemo and now it may be too late like Cal-Gal said. She just doesn't want to feel sick anymore and is getting so tired of the vomiting. If they could get that under control I think her spirits would be a lot better. I will be going to my church early on Sunday to ask for a prayer group for her, she means so much to me and the thought of her not being around much longer is really tough. Last year when my best friend died after back surgery I thought my world would end...now this. Thanks again for being there for me...it means more than you guys will ever know. |

I'm so very sorry, I really hope they can get your aunt at least feeling a bit better to get her spirits back up and am glad that you were there for her when everything was explained.
I'll be keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. |
