Ciera, a Rescue Puppy...
As I mentioned in the "Best Breeds" thread, I got a Shepherd/Hound mix named Ciera from my hubby for Christmas, from a puppy rescue. My sister-in-law and I walked down to the house where the rescue was based, and I picked her out of more than 20 different dogs. They gave her the needed shots, and I took her home, wrapped in a warm blanket.
Well, at the time, we lived in an apartment, and at first, everything was fine. The landlady (well, site manager, it was controlled by Belmont Shelter Corp.) thought she was cute, etc... but then one day, she seemed to change, and when she came to inspect our house, she said that the dog had put claw marks on the closet door (which had been there since we moved in - we even had pictures), and we hadn't paid our pet deposit, which was $300! I admit, I'd forgotten about it, since we'd been living there for nearly 3 years. She said either pay the money, get rid of the dog, or move immediately. We didn't have the money, of course, since we hadn't paid a PENNY for her in the first place, and we had 2 kids and 1 on the way, so moving that quickly was just NOT an option. Well, okay, so we'd find somewhere for Ciera to live, right? HA! We called the Puppy Rescue, told them the situation, and they said they had no room to take her. I tried to get some family to take her in for a while, but no one really had the resources for that. So what were we forced to do? Give her to the SPCA!!! I was devastated! Not to mention I was thoroughly upset at the rescue for refusing her, even for a short amount of time. Anyway, when my hubby took Ciera into the SPCA, a woman saw her and told him that she was just what she was looking for, and she wanted to adopt her. I hope she got her, as she was the sweetest thing! Even my hubby, who really didn't want a puppy, ended up taking her for walks and playing with her. A few months later, we ended up moving anyway, and he constantly says how much he misses Ciera, and how good she was. I pray every day that she is in a loving home, and we all miss her very much. ~Rhodielover~ |

I want to get a Rhodesian Ridgeback, or a Foxhound. I hope to get one pretty soon, now that we have a WHOLE house, and the hubby has a better job. But if I find a different breed that will get along in our house, I'll go for it. Nothing says I can't have more than one, either, LOL!
The reason I want a Foxhound is when my husband was younger (about 12-13), he was on a paper route, and there was a dog tied up outside everyday, no one ever came out to feed her, etc. He felt bad for her, and named her MommaDog, cuz she had puppies. One day, she got away, and Matt (hubby) wanted to keep her, but the owner came and said she was worth like $1000 dollars or something like that. Well, he ended up getting one of the puppies somehow, and trained it to hunt with him. He ended up having to get rid of it, cuz it kept bringing dead things into the house, and I think it snapped at one of his younger sisters. He REALLY misses that dog. I think it would be so touching to get him a Foxhound again. Also, he had a dream a few weeks ago that I surprised him with a puppy. He didn't say what kind, but I bet it was like MommaDog! LOL |

Well, shortly after we moved, the site manager was replaced by another lady, and my friend (who lived next door) told me that she's really great. My friend's kitchen ceiling fell in due to a leak from the bathroom pipes, and the former lady told her she had to fix it HERSELF!!! She was a real troublemaker for a lot of people there, but I'm glad she's gone. I just wish she would've been taken care of while we were still there, before we lost our girl!
Anyway, I can't wait to get another dog. Not too sure I wanna deal with the pottytraining and all that, but...it'd be worth it to see the look on Matt's face when he saw HIS NEW DOG! Only thing is, it will be hard to surprise him, since he'll have to pay for it!! LOL ~Rhodielover~ |

Just do your research on the breed you want to make sure it fits into your life style...Foxhounds since they are hunting dogs require alot of stimulation for mind and exercise....
