"There's always room for one more".

While surfing the net today looking for collars I found this and wanted to share:

Room For One More

I see by his coat he must be a stray
The untidy look gives him away
He's lost his will and is so thin
He hasn't eaten since God knows when
I know as I coax him throught the door
There's always room for one more
The other night in the freezing rain
That little female came up again
Matted and soaked, crying in need
Lost and alone with babies to feed
Her pleading eyes I couldn't ignore
There's always room for one more
There's a new face on the block today
Hungry and unclean to our dismay
I stroked her head and her body rippled
When she got up I saw she was crippled
She started to go but fell to the floor
There's always room for one more
There's the poor dog standing in the rain
I've tried to entice him time and again
One ear's lopsided, the other's been torn
Blind in one eye, lost and forlorn
He's coming now, so I'll open the door
There's always room for one more.

Awsome poem, and it is a small reminder of all of the strays out there, whether in a shelter or not, that need homes.

Thanks for sharing. It sure is sad, but it does make one think. Some time ago as I was driving down the little highway here in the snow...very cold, there was a dog....looked like a Pitbul mix standing along the side and he was very, very thin and scared looking, lost. I stopped the car to see if he was game for coming over to me. I thought if he was friendly and came right up, I'd coax him into my car and take him to a shelter or something. He would not come over to me...almost acted like a wild animal. He backed away when I spoke and went into the woods. He was way to scared to make friends. So, all I could do was get in my car and leave. It made me very sad to think he probably was going to go off into the wilderness and just die. Someone must have dumped him or he escaped. (?) Anyhow, the poor thing was skinny, looked wounded, was limping a little and very frightened.

I wonder how many dogs are out there, not in shelters even...like this poor little dog. It sure does make you think. So sad.
