Brody is a nine week old, purebred sheltie. heres the story:
Brody was bred by a breeder that was very lazy and cheap. He had the puppies on the back porch in a little playpen, with a RING of FLEAS around their necks. He bred them from two beautiful adult dogs with papers but decided he didn't want to spend the money to get the litter registered. So know i am going to pay for him since he is sooo cheap, and it is only like 40$ for his litter! but brody is happy and healthy and is going to the vet tomorrow for his second shots (i hope i don't cry!!) So that is his story so far, the breeder hasn't called back yet (i may have to make a house call!!) so yeah. |

so instead of going to a responsible ethical breeder who has quality stock that health tests and titles, you will go to this BYB who keeps his dogs in crappy shape and buy a dog that is POTENTIALLY AKC registerable, and contribute to this guys financial situation, and then FURTHERMORE register his litter for him.
yeah, that makes sense. sorry, i cant congratulate you for helping this guy out of getting that dog and paying for it. almost everyone i know who gets a BYB dog ethically gets an ILP on the dog - because there is NO WAY any of that dogs accomplishments should go back to the breeder. i just dont think this is funny, dont see the levity and cant fathom congratulating you on your choice, or giggling while you consider yourself such a ditz. |

You are totally right but didn't really tell you the whole story, you see, I am the oldest of four daughters, and we live with both our parents, (my dad is deyployed) and my mom thought it was ok to get a dog. So she really didn't want to spend that much money on a dog so she found "brody's ad". she called the people and we went to look at him (my mom fell in love and took him home), and the people who were selling him was not the breeder. The Former Owner bought him and his sister from the breeder, she couldn't handle both so sold Brody. So we asked for brody's background and she told us, (but i am not to sure about the ring of fleas, she kinda looked like she was lying so she wouldn't have to sell him!). soo there is the story (give or take a few parts) also wish brody good luck hes going to get his second shots! and Doberkim thank you for telling me that, ireally needed that! (seriously i do cause i thought that i saved the day but you are right, all i did was help the guy with his money problem)

It's just a matter of education. If it's not too late, it would be prudent of you to back out and go to a reputable breeder. You see....by taking one of these pups off this guy's hands, you are enabling him to carry on like this. This is NOT good for the breed. He is not concerned with bettering the breed, health testing (you don't know what genetic health problems are in his lines), taking proper care of the puppies. How do you know what the lactating mother had in the way of proper nutrition to give those pups a good foundation while developing? This is a poor excuse for a breeder. In fact, this is not a breeder, but a greeder.
I do not judge you because you probably didn't know any better, but hopefully you'll learn for next time that by supporting idiots like this guy, you are encouraging the ongoing propagation of poor quality dogs who have not been health tested, proven in shows to be of the best conformation, no temperament testing....nothing. He is deteriorating the breed which reputable breeders strive soooo hard to improve and keep pure. I hope you reconsider this purchase if it's not already done. |

Oh, I didn't realize you had the pup for that long. Well, enjoy him. I'm sure he's darling. But I wouldn't contribute one more penny to help this guy with his despicable breeding practices. Why on earth should you pay him to register the litter? I wouldn't even bother with registering your dog? What's the point?
Hopefully if people get the word and stop supporting these back yard breeders, they'll go down. Breeding should be left up to real breeders who are only in it for improving the breed. There are already too many dogs in shelters and so the purebreds should be bred to be tops. Like I said, I am not criticizing you and I wouldn't think of expecting you to return the pup. It's just something good to know for future purchases. I too went to a byb when I got my Chihuahuas. But I learned for the next time and really did my research before I got my Doberman. He is top notch quality....from known, tested dogs.....health, temperament, conformation etc etc...a very renoun breeder. The byb of my Chi's seemed more with it though than the breeder you're describing. But never the less, it's all bad. They're not producing dogs in the respectable manner. Do enjoy your pup and I hope to see some pictures of the little cutie. |

I agree wholeheartedly with Kim. If you want a show dog, buy from a breeder who knows the standard well. This person can NOT be breeding show prospects if he doesn't even register his own litter.
While I hope your dog lives a long, healthy, happy life with you, I'm sorry, but I won't congratulate you on supporting a breeder who is contributing to the ruining of the breed. |
