Multiple dog owners, how do you walk them?

Just wondering, do you walk them all together? One leash with a coupler? Choke chain or halter? etc.

I walk Duke by himself, because he has hip dysplasia. So we can only take
short, slow walks.

I walk the puppies together, with halters, each on their own leash. I started with one leash and a coupler, but they got so strong that I had to get the halters. I didn't find the coupler worked very well with the halters, so we swiched to 2 leash.

I love the halters, no pulling problem anymore

Where I live there are many places to go off leash. There are no rules as I'm out in the mountain wilderness of north Idaho. So we go on hiking trails or to the beach...sometimes the golf course. The Chihuahuas are not wimps. LOL. They keep right up easily with the big dogs and can negotiate obstacles better than the big dogs.

There's no way I'm coordinated enought to handle four leashes. So usually we all go together. But I do take my pup on a leash for practice at other times. It would be difficult to take them all at once if I lived somewhere else.

It sounds like you've come up with a good, workable solution.

If im walking them alone I take the puppy (Kino) first then the two older Min Pins (Shredder and Runt). They pull and walk every which way so they get tangled easily, where as the puppy walks straight unless he has to pee.

At night though my fiance and I usually go together and I take Kino he takes Shredder and Runt. That usually works fine.

Always on nylon collars and leashes.

I am going to order one of these leashes...I will let you know how it works.
I have been trying to walk 2 dogs and it is almost impossible.

Thats like the coupler I was using, and I loved it. Hopefully with some more trainning(heel), we will be able to go back to it. Till then I'm stuck with 2 leashes, the only other option is to get dragged down the road by 2 very strong dogs

I walk two of my dogs together, with nylon clip collars and nylon leashes. My other girl I walk either with her GL or choke chain, and nylon leash. Sometimes I walk them together though, and using the Flexi at the unfenced doggie park (thanks animallover!) is fun.

I tend to walk the younger pugs (Winston and Bentley) together for a long, faster walk, then we come back and I take Oscar along for another walk with all three a shorter, slower walk. He just isn't built for speed. LOL All three walk nicely. I thought about a couple for Winston & Bentley but I do fine with just leashes hooked to their harnesses.

I don't walk my dogs, they have so much room here to run and play I have no need for it. The only time they are leashed is when they are going somewhere..

When I take my dogs I usually have Dakota with a check chain and 6ft leash at my left side, and Ripley to my right and ahead of me on his retractable leash. Usually Patches and Elway go as well, with no leashes, and on the rare occasion that Buster goes, he's also 'naked'.

I have a very large property out on the country so I don't have to worry about leashing when I'm at home, the bullies just all walk right along with me on the property and if I'm out of town at a show mine are all walked with a martingail leash.

I walk Sheiba and Denali together. I use a prong on Denali and a harness on Sheiba.

Then I walk Bub with a reg collar.

If they can't be walked they have access to the fenced in back yard

Walking 4 dogs is quite the adventure for me. I use a Halti on the 3 big dogs, I will swear by the Halti it keeps them from pulling my shoulder out of joint. The puppy walks on a harness still. 2 leashes per hand and we are off....lol

Boxerlover,
I know how you feel.
When we go out for fun its like cross between scientific expedition and pub crawl. They never sniff the same thing at the same time. Each goes in a different direction. Living on land is good, lot of room to run, but it too gets boring and new places have to be investigated. And its not training time so I just indulge them. No people to laugh at us either.

When we had 3 it just took a little juggling to get it right 2 leads in one hand and the biggest puller in the other. Now down to 2 dogs one in each hand.
