Unhappy

That really touched me..... I was kinda crying at the first part . I can't beleive people could be so cruel (oh, wait, yes I can.... ). Every word said on that thing was sooooo true. These animals are the most missunderstood creatures on this planet. I love pitties, and that stuff just makes me so mad and sad all at the same time. Priase the Lord that video had a happy ending or I'd be bawling tears..... I will defend the PitBull till the day I die.....

I wish you would have watched the whole thing, honost... it got better at the end.
I cried when I saw it too (I thought I was just being overly emotional!).
But even afterwards (and now, as a matter of fact), I have this feeling in my head and heart like I need to do something RIGHT NOW. I just wish that I could do something about it. I wish I had to room to adopt another dog...I would go out to every shelter in the area and find a pit bull that could work in my home!

As awful as that was in the beginning, it really does have a good point.

That is exactly how I feel.... When I first watched it, it kinda disturbed me and I guess why was because I knew dog fighting and everything was going on, but it never really hit me that it was real, if you know what I mean, untill I watched that.
Also watching that made me think of something I saw on the internet a couple of days ago. I was doing a google search on 'Akita info' and something that popped up along with a whole bunch of other websites was if an 'Akita could beat an Alasken Malamute in a dog fight.' It said, "The Akita would whoop butt and if anybody had any more questions about dogfighting...." It stopped there and I couldn't get on the website because we have an internet filter thingy.
After seeing that a little bit of fear kinda stuck in my heart because I don't want any other breeds to get ruined in dogfighting. Also, it ticked me off because the Akita and Malamute are one of my fav. breeds.
I think it would be really cool to foster a dog from a Rescue or Shelter but my mom isn't to keen on the idea..... I would like to do it 'cause that is something I could do to help.....

I agree with you Rip. It does have a good point and part of me just wishes everybody could see that and become aware that Pits aren't killers. It's the people that are destroying them, not the other way around.

In a previous post I wrote:Why aren't those people looking at the owners??? Pitbulls are VERY loving and sweet! No one ever thinks to look at the owners.

BXRchic, Thank you for bringing that to this forum. That makes me so sad! . It shows you how it is not the dog, but the owner. I only wish that these kinds of things didn't happen. It just shows you how cruel and evil people can be. My heart goes out to those poor dogs.

Quite honestly, around here, about 1/4 of the dogs they label as "pit bulls" or "pit bull mixes" really are. The remaining 75% are lab mixes, some ACD mixes (built a LOT like a pittie, especially with those big muscular heads) mastiff mixes, hound mixes.. ANY dog with a short, smooth brindle coat is called a pit bull. (We had a greyhound come into the shelter last year, OBVIOUSLY a purebred greyhound, beautiful dog, and they were wondering if she had pitbull in her because she was brindle. )
Pit bulls are a rather common breed around here anyway, but to add 75% MORE supposed 'pit bulls' to the mix is just not right.

That means that 75% of the 'pit bulls' that bite really AREN'T pits. 75% of the 'vicious dogs' are actually hound mixes, or ACD mixes, or even Labrador mixes. I saw a few days ago in the newspaper something about a pit bull mix attacking a cat, and they showed a picture of the dog and it was a purebred labrador, just a bit stockier than most.

This has nothing to do with how HORRIBLE fighting is, but it has a lot to do with why pit bulls are banned in Ontario, why they aren't allowed by many insurance companies in the US, and why so many people fear them needlessly.

Any dog can be dangerous, it just makes me mad that they pick one in particular to show as 'vicious', when if that dog is properly bred and raised, they aren't at all.

That was something else, to bad people have to give dogs a bad name We are the one's that breed them and make them what they are, thats why the breeding is so important and who you get your dogs from. Just sad that they have to pay the price

I watch Animal cops on Animal Planet sometimes and I hate to see all of the fight rings they find. The poor pups are all cut up and underfed. They say they have to PTS every animal they find in the homes that have the fighting rings. They can't take a chance.

I believe it's a privledge to own a dog, not a right. If you abuse that privledge is should be taken away. I wsh there was a way....

I believe the Animal Cop show you are talking about is the one that is from Detroit. I have watched that one too. They will pts any dog that looks remotely like a pit bull. They will also confiscate any "pit bull" they see that is out in public with a juvenile. I watched one show a couple of weeks ago where they picked up two "pit bulls", when the owner showed up to claim them he was told he had to place the dogs somewhere outside the city limits or they would be taken away from him. Even though he had papers proving they weren't pitties.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for sharing that link. It was very powerful and moving.

ACD makes me quite angry, honestly. If they have the right to take away pit bulls, they should at least be able to identify them correctly. One dog that they confiscated and PTS because it was a 'pit bull' was in fact a Cane Corso. They had it PTS just because it was a stocky dog with cropped ears, even though it was a very good-natured dog by the looks of it.
