I'm home schooled!! I have been since 4th grade. I'm going into First Asembley Christian Acadamy (FACA) next year, though.

Ritz: Cyber school is were you go to school online, it's the same as a public school as far as teachers, deadlines, we have chats with our teachers and classmates, we have student government, and all that stuff. Both Rip’s girl and I go to one...

Okay, no one jump on me! I'm just curious about the whole home-school thing. Do your parents teach you or do you have a tutor? If it's your parents, do they have post-secondary education? How did you get the socialization aspect of school? Is it the same curriculum(sp)? Do you feel prepared for a college setting? I'm asking b/c I have a few fanatically religious relatives who home schooled their children, and none of them were educated past high school and all of their teaching was religious-based. Also, they only socialized with a couple of other familes of the same belief. Now, some of the kids are grown up, and none of them have gone to college, and they are all very socially off. On the other side, I know of a couple of teens who have chosen to be home schooled due to harrassment, etc at school, and they are just blossoming and getting better grades without the high school harrassment. Just curious about how you feel about your experience.

My mom teaches me, but sometimes my dad does science with me (I'm taking Biology. Mom is going to make him do the dissection with me! lol) and he is going through a book with me called The Fallacy Detective. (It is a book on logic. It is getting pretty tricky!) Mom had a major in teaching younger kids and my dad is a Pharmacist(sp?).
You have a couple of curriculuim(sp?) that you can chose from. I'm doing the Sonlight Corriculuim and it is VERY based on reading. (I'm a good/fast reader so that is no prob. for me.) They also have other curriculems you can chose from.
I don't think homeschooling has been a problem with me. I'm going to be going into a privite school next year for highschool, so I think I'll get all of the 'socialization benifits' then.(I don't think I have a prob. with it now though.) I do know of some other homeschooling families that go to a monthly 'meeting' and have special projects to do and stuff.

For I think 5th and 6th grade, I was home schooled (NOT online school) by my mom and dad. Eventually we decided that we didn't like that and for 7th grade I went to a private school. After that, we didn't like how it tied us down, since we like to 'pack up and go' a lot on little trips, so we started looking around and found an online school.. I like it because I'm being taught by people who actually ARE teachers and that it's got the 'flexibility' of home schooling. (Lately I'm glad about that, because I have been so busy..)

I going to say yes and no… it depends on who your parents are. Mine do not have a post-secondary education, but at the end of the year, we have to bring all our work to an elevator, who looks over your work and tells you if you passed out not. My brothers who were homed school are going to collage. I’m going to go to collage and all my brothers and sisters are. We used (we are all cyber schooled now) but we used Abecka books for everything except math were we used saxon… Abecka is religious, but one of the best out there. We still had our friends so we were socialized (sounds like a dog huh?) and we can talk to anyone.

Wow

Wow a lot of ppl are home scholed thease days!
DO any of you guys kno a percentage of kids who are homeschooled? (for any grade? and any length of time?)

And Like how long would your parents teach you for?
DID you do science experiments ?
What did you do when they weren't teaching you?
DID/were you in any sports?
What hobbies did you take on?

Sry for all the Questions.
I don't kno anything aobut being homeschooled.
There is a kid in my homeroom and he use to be homeschooled.
When he first came all the hustling and locker stuff and all the ppl scared him a little so he only has 3hr days, So his parents must teach him the other ha;f of the stuff he has to learn.

My mom is my techer, and when she cannot my grandmother does! I have never gotten any grade below a- and my mom does not grade me you see once a week a big homeschooling thing sends me my homework and I do it and send it back, they grade me. I am going to be a veteranarian, and there will be nothing to stop me. I am now a non-registered vet tech, and I am not just saying that, I volunteer at a neer by lew cost spay and neuter clinic and the vet is Dr. Kacocha...and I prep the animals for there surgery, I give them there shots (the only one I am not able to give them because of law is the shot to put the to sleep for there surgery) but I am able to give them a rabies shot as long as the vet is there ( by law)...One of the things that Dr.Kacocha said about me is that she would never do a spay and neuter clinic without me there to tech for her, she said I was the best vet tech she had ever had! I have a small amount of friends but we are close, and the reason I do not have many friends is because I like true friends, ones that will not lie tom me and ones that will go out on a lim for me, ones that are NOT going to ask me to smoke or take drugs or drink because that is not the kind of person I am. I have many chores around the house such as loundery, dogs out side and inside (rotateing dog in kennels with dogs out in the house all the time) when I cannot rotate they go on papers so once a day those are picked up, doing the shelter (spraying out there BIG cages once a day while me grandma is walking them for exersize), I have 6 hamsters, 1 gerbil, and 1 guinia pig that are mine, and I chance there cages once a week and ever day they get fresh food and water and they all get 20 minutes out of there cage and in a exersize ball, and that is one of my chores and my alowence is $20.00, and all of the haster, gerbil and guinia pig food money comes out of my alowence. I am also a baby sitter for my moms friend and I baby set saturday, sunday from 8:00am to 4:00pm and there are two kids John and Brainia, Brainia has grandwall seizures, I have to be very careful how I tell her NO when she is doing something rong because she could go in to a seizure, I also have to have all of her meds on hand all her docters number and the number to where her mom is. John has ADHD, he is very hyper and it is not him faly because his docter keep switching his meds...For an unknown reason and it makes him hyper, when he gets balanced out he is a great kid, John is 6 and Brainia is 5..I also go to there moms house on the weekends now because she is pregnant and not very able to take care of the kids and do house work, she hurt her back too, so I go over there most of the time and cook and clean for her...Her husband works two jobs to try and keep everyone in food and cloths.
So I think I am doing very well in my life...Does anyone disagree?
