What is it with nightime??

I have had the most horrid mouth pain for the past few days. It started out as just as small tooth ache, but it has started to radiate into my jaw.

I would have gone to the doctor/dentist by now, but my parents do not have insurance, and we're waiting to be approved for Florida Healthy Kids (health insurance). My mom thinks I may have an abscess. The funny thing is that it may not bother me all day long (occassionally) until about 9:30 at night and it shoots from my tooth, all down my jaw and into my cheek. I've had to take heavy pain killers just to be able to sleep.

But have any of you ever had something bother you the most at night? Like a fever, cold, or some type of pain? Even when I have colds, I tend to fever and feel really crummy at night, while during the day I feel much better and I really don't feel sick at all.

I would encourgae you to get into the dentist asap.
I had a sore tooth 2 yrs ago. First it was just temperature sensitive then it got gradually worse but I kept putting off going b/c I hate the dentist. Big mistake.

I did have an abscess, needed a root canal and by that time things were so inflamed and irritated they had a VERY difficult time getting it to freeze. I ended up in tears after being told I might have a root canal without proper freezing but it finally did freeze but by that time I was so freaked out. It was awful. I would rather have another labor and delivery than go through weeks of dental pain like that again. Learn from my mistake and get your booty to a dentist.
Do you live near a uni with a dental school? Sometimes they do dental work at a very cut rate.

Trust me... I would be at the dentist in a heart beat. We don't have the money right now to pay for a doctor bill... and we have no insurance, so that can get pretty high.

Not too long ago I had a whole in my gum. I thought it was an abscess of some sort, with a little hole. HORRIBLE pain... I ended up finding out that part of my tooth never came out and my gums had grown over top of it. It was badly infected. So they had to extract the rest of the tooth, along with pulling the root. I have never felt so much pain afterwards. Thankfully my mom knew the pharmacist and she was able to get my pain pill prescription through within 10-15 minutes.

I'm not sure if the university near here has one or not. We're currently waiting for my mom's funds to come through (SSA - Social Security... her retirement money) and once that happens we will be fine with other things.

Ouch! Hope it's ok.. I can't remember how old you are, but maybe your wisdom teeth are coming through.. They can take a few years to completely cut through your gums. I have all four wisdom teeth and they made my jaw ache like mad! It was quite painful at times, as it felt like shooting pain.

Yes, I've had similar pains to that, first it was my wisdom teeth, then a couple of years ago I had jaw and cheek pain because I needed a root canal. I hope you can get it checked out soon. Nothing like suffereing from tooth pain longer and longer.

I'm so sorry about the pain you are experiencing. Toothaches are the worse and seem to be the most bothersome at night.

Thankfully it hasn't been bothering me all day today. *knock on wood* I just got back from my cousins block party so I was able to enjoy that.

Swiftwind - I'm 17 years old... My wisdom teeth is probably a pretty good guess. I don't think they have come through yet. It's only my bottom right jaw. But sometimes it's just that whole side so I don't know where it's coming from. LOL

Gargle with very warm salt water every hour just in case you do have an infection. Hold the water in your cheek and swish it around for a minute and spit it out. Keep doing that for 10 minutes every hour.

I actually love going to the dentist. I have fallen asleep while I get my teeth cleaned before.

Ahh at least I was quite close, I thought you were 16. When my wisdom teeth were coming through they made the other teeth next to them ache as well, which was a real pain! I think my wisdom teeth started coming through when I was 15 or 16, but it's different for many people (my sister started getting her's when she was 18 or 19).

Sometimes the pain gets worse at night because the air pressure changes. try keeping your face warm lol it can help

Isnt it sad that the world wants such unreasonable payment for things we need to have attended too. medical insurance is so darn dear and so is the treatment if you get sick

Can you at least get to the doctor for some anti biotics?? You can get very sick from an abcess. The poison gets into your blood stream. Not to scare you, but its very dangerous. Plus we would miss you terribly on here.

I actually have antibiotics left from when I was sick. I'll start taking those today.

Surprisingly, my tooth didn't bother me at all yesterday evening, all through out the night and today. Really odd... that's what makes me think it's my wisdom teeth... they're just slowly trying to push through.

Linnie - It is outrageous! My mom was denied SSI (she is probably getting SSA) because my dad had a steady income

I'd like for them to explain to me how my dad can support a family of 3, with a house payment that's about $1600 and his checks are just BARELY enough to cover that. It's insane... My father's work offers insurance through their company, but it's $900 a month! Sheesh!
