I'm sure you could treat the brown recluse bite to a dog the same way you would treat one to you. Here is an excellent site on different home treatments you can do:

From what I understand, some spider vemon can be especially deadly to primates but have a lesser or little effect on dogs or cats. The male Funnel Web Spider of Australia is one of these.
You might do a search on the net to see what you can find before treating your dog with human remedies, too. Yeach! Nothing like a spider in your pants! I had one in my bra once. I felt a tickle and there it was, having a little snooze. ![]() |

I did a random net search of "spider venom primate canine" and this site came up:
http://www.ajtmh.org/cgi/content/full/71/2/239 I did a quick read through and found that certain tarantula bites rarely cause harm in humans, but were found to be fatal to dogs. It seems the venom of a spider affects each species differently and differs spider by spider. Good to know! The fiddleback was included in the study work. |

wow thant sounds awsome, have to check into that later....
I just heard some interesting storys about these bites and i know they are no fun!!! i didn't care to much untill i found one in my bathroom and the second now in my pants in the bathroom. we have lots of spiders so i am used to shake my cloth, but wolfspiders or the jumping ones i really don't mind that much. But a fiddleback i do. i mean i feel and see when i got bitten, but with all the coat i was worried that i really don't see it, eventhough i think they have a hard time biting through all that hair. just started worrieng about the dogs because they catch the spiders, and sometimes play with them before the final kill, I usually pick up atleast one or two spiders everytime I mop the floor, or sweep. A spider in my bra, uahhh don't want that one.... |

The fiddleback is actually named "brown recluce".
but commonly known as a fiddleback because on the front on their back they have a brown mark that looks like a fiddle. they live in calm areas like woodpiles, attics and so on and wtheir bite is bad, their venom destrois tissue and muscle arround the bite, the bite is not deadly but can look pretty bad and is painfull, a freind of mine got bit and it was in the ankle area and the venom got till to the vain and opend the vain, she had to be rushed to the er. This is why i am worried about the spiders beeing in my bathroom and pants!!! you can find them easyly when you put it in the search engine and some examples for the bitewounds, it is nasty. Calgal has a link up there where you can see a bit. |

If I were you I would have an exterminator come out. Kennel the dogs for a few days. It's best for the saftey of you and your family. Many times when you start to see them, there are too many some where and they are looking for a new nesting place. I would be very concerned if you have seen 2 in your bathroom. Not for nothing but their bites are very bad. Take it from one with personal experience. My aunt has a large chunk out of her leg from a brown recluse. The poison "kills" everything around the bite area and will travel if not taken care of.

I got one bite from what I think was a brown recluse just above and to the right of my tailbone. I never saw the spider, but it was a nasty bite which grew into a large sore as if the flesh was being digested. It would heal up and then re-ulcerate off and on for almost two years. I treated it with mouthwash of all things, which worked amazingly well...but eeeeew! Just the thought of it!
