What commands do you use?
This was in discussion in another thread, so I thought I'd start a new one here.
What commands do you use for your dogs? What language? Myself and Crossfire use German commands for ours. I'll post a few to get things started. Fuss=Heel Sitz=Sit Bleib=Stay Platz=Down/Lay down Come=Hier Steh=Stand Bring=Fetch/Retrieve Hopp=Jump Voraus=Go out Such=Track Pass auf=Pay attention/Guard Fass= Grab on/Bite Aus=Let go/out Gib laut=Speak Voran/Revier=Blind search (if the bad guy is hiding, go look) Box=Kennel/Crate Geh Raus=Go outside Geh Rein=Go inside Was ist los?=What is going on? So ist brav=Good! (praise) Pfui or Nein=No In Ordnung=OK (release, or we're done) Lass es=Leave it |

Hi
i use of course German, but found out that aika likes Czech, and me kinda, too. and so i throw some Czech in there, too. since I have to be fluent in dogcommands in several languages, it was just bound to be happening that i mix something up. Well most dogs need german commands , others Czech then Dutch. On really bad days we confuse ourselves with it and can't get anything right anymore, wich always ends up in a great deal of laughter and fun.... But back to normal, i talk german with my dogs and the commands are very simmilar to the ones you listed, there are just a few where i use different commands... |

SIT = Hand on my chest, or verbal command of "sit", or stopping when at heel with a certain attitude on my part.
LAY DOWN = Point to spot, or verbal command of "lay down", or boundary word of "hey" - to get dog to settle. STAY = Backward hand gesture, or verbal command of "stay". GO TO YOUR SPOT = Point to spot, verbal command of "go check yer bones" (hard to explain this one! ). This directs dog to their personal space, which can even be a blanket when we're away from "home."EH" = Boundary word which means stop and avoid where you were headed. "EH-EH" = Boundary word which means stop and pay attention to me. "HEY" = Boundary word which means stop and pay attention to me with a more serious tone, or to lay down on your side. ALL THE WAY DOWN = Verbal command for dog's submissive gesture of laying on their side, or pointing finger at dog and making eye contact. (see HEY) GAME? = Verbal cue for scent detection exercise with cookie reward. SPIN = Twirl finger in the air. SIT-UP = Hold hand palm up above dog's head. UP = Pat surface with hand or drag my finger where I want her to go. CRAWL = Pointing to ground with my finger. CHOO-CHOO-CRAWL= I pantomime, and Tia imitates me. It's a commando-doggie crawl on her elbows. COME HERE = A whistle when at a distance, verbal command of "meir", Tia must come to me and assume follower position behind me, or come to me and sit head-on. EMERGENCY RECALL = A sharp "WHEEEET!" whistle. RELEASE = Verbal cue of "okay" for freetime exploring. I guess I don't need to go into "poop?', "hungry?", and "wanna go: for a walk, for a ride, ect...". These are the basics, hard to write down all of the nuances though! |

D.Schaferhund.....care to share some of your Czech/Dutch commands?
Its amazing how much our dogs know, verbally, and with the hand signals thrown in, they're pretty smart! lol And I'm sure they recognize other words we use regularly, they just aren't letting on to it! One phrase I use when they are "thinking" of being onery, is "Excuse me!!" they look at me and then go in the other room. |

Take Responsibility
|
The main one i use is "Focus"....I either say it or put my finger on my chin....they stop on a dime and stare at me when I do it.
I use the noise "Ah Ah" to get them to stack if they do not stop stacked. |

Hmmmm
let's see sit down stand watch me heel get in (heel position from left) matt (go lie on the matt / dog bed until you are released) settle = lie down in any position you want and just chill out Rally-o stuff: get around = go to heel position from the right get back = left pivot 90 or 180 degrees get around =shutzhund turn come wait (freeze / stay) but implies they will be released you stay = I'm leavin and you ain't comin in you go =go in and don't come out til you are released ie car or crate ok (release) agility stuff: out = lateral distance to the obstacle (currently Sammy is having trouble with this one) side = same as get in but on the other side swing = change sides bottom = drive to the bottom of the equipment and wait with two legs on and two off Go = go to the obstacle straight in front of you and keep doing that until there's either a turn or no obstacles left agility obstacles each have a name (weave, hup, tunnel, chute, hoop, table, dog walk, frame ..) silly stuff: say woof go flat = lie on side head flat on floor I need more silly stuff and tricks! |

Sammy...when you say "get around" as in Schutzhund style, do you mean flip around or go around my body? I have found there are 2 types. Just wondering! Elite goes around my body, and Carlos "flips" around in place.

Besides the usual obedience cues and the names of all the agility equipment, and what to do with it, here are a few little practical ones we use every day when hiking in the wilderness trails. The things they learn can be applied in different situations it seems.
Having dogs who can figure things out, make decisions and take charge is a comforting feeling. Jose is very protective and when we're on our hikes in the woods here, it's nice that they all lead out ahead of me and face the bears before I do. They'll all bark if there's a bad guy up there, so I have time to draw my .38. So, their command is "trail" which means stay on the trail, stay ahead of me and watch your backside. "Go run" means they can do whatever they want, go off the trail a little bit.... as long as they don't go too far, which they never want to do anyhow because they like me and want to stick around. But if they do get a little far ahead or around a bend, I'll say, "wait." And they sort of wait, stand still or wander around right about where they are. "Go jump" is for fun when I see a log up ahead across a trail and tell Lyric he can have fun and jump, which he loves to do and will go back and forth a few times, jumping before continuing on the hike. Of course, he's ahead of me, (actually, he's faster than I am. Can you believe it?) but I never jump over logs so I'm not technically playing follow the leader, am I? I just saunter along behind them all.If I "forget" which way to go, I say, "lets go back" and they turn back and find the way with their noses, I assume... while I follow them. It's nice to have brave dogs who know how to take charge of a situation. LOL. ![]() |

Basically we walking along heeling , dog is on my left, I turn counter clockwise making a 180 degree turn and the dog goes turns simultaneously around me so that they end up back on my left and we continue heeling going the other direction. So I think it's the around my body way you describe. |
