slight brag/rant
Ok, so I have a question...does any one else who owns a Pontiac Grand Am hate their car as much as my fiance does??
This car was origionally bought so that he could have a reliable vehicle to get back and forth to work every day. Before this car, he had a '86 F150 truck that was his first vehicle. The 2001 Pontiac Grand Am was supposed to be helpful, it's been all but... I cannot tell you how many times he broke down in that car. He's been in 2 accidents with it (in a year and a half of owning it), it's needed the signal switch replaced in it (lights would just come on, or not work at all when needed), already had the Inertia Switch sensor replaced (a switch that cuts the fuel off to the vehicle in case of in a accident, nice feature, just sucks when it's not in an accident), and NOW we just figured out that there is a Security system and it has to be reset. Easy to reset, just very time consuming. I was just wondering if any one else here has a Pontiac Grand Am, and if they encountered any similar problems. Well, on a bragging note....Matt went and traded the car in last night, and he got a 2006 Ford Ranger Sport. He wanted a full size, but it was too much money and wasn't worth it. I told him that if he wanted a full size, he could pay the Ranger off and then go get a truck. It's nice, and Matt really likes it. He is worried that I wouldn't like it, but I told him he's the one who has to drive it, I just have to ride in it, and for that, I just need leg and head room. ![]() |

Rottweiler Mum

I just traded in my Grand Am recently, but not because it kept breaking down. I had the car 3 years and never had a single problem with it. I bought a Ford Explorer, and mainly because of the dogs.....2 Rottweilers just don't fit in a Grand Am....hahaha. I've had the car since April or so, and already I'm having problems with it. The engine light keeps coming on, and the ABS system keeps kicking in regardless of the weather. What a pain in the butt. I can't even take it in to get checked right now because i've been off work for 3 months and can't afford it at the moment. GGRRRRR!

On the contrary, my mother had a grand am and it was just about one of the best cars we've ever had. Had it for around 8 years or so, and aside from routine maitenence that had to be done, it never gave her problems.
I work in a factory (automotive) and one thing I can tell you is never, ever buy the first model year of something. Too many glitches with them. Plus, not sure if anyone knew this or not, but you can ask your dealer what day of the week your car was made on (they have the means to find out). I personally would never buy a car that was made on a Friday, or a friday of a long weekend, ditto for Monday. But that's just me. I wonder if your car was made on a holiday week or something? |

My parents have or had one of about the same vintage. They had had it lest than a week before they found out that the sunroof leaked which created electrical issues in addition to the wet interior. Don't think they had many issues not related to water, but it did start off on a bad note.
BTW: I had warned then not to buy a GM. ![]() |
