My turn to rant

I absolutely LOVE to go to garage sales. well last weekend I stopped at one. As i walked down the drive way 2 JRT came running up. So I let them sniff me ect..and continued to walk. The woman said to me they are harmelss. I told her They were being fine. Which they were. Then the both proceeded to jump ALLLLLL over me. I had shorts on and their little nails were scrathing. When the owner didn't do anything I put my hand down and told them no and off. Figuring that would solve the problem. NOPE! they then began leaping in the air and clammering up my legs for attention. I was scratched pretty badly. (bleeding) The woman was actually laughing at the "play" of her dogs. No I completely understand what was going on. Normal behavior. However, when you have people walking around your yard, some that may no get it, or just dislike dogs. This was completley innappropriate. I finally got the dogs off me. They then ran up do the next person coming down and did the same thing. the woman did'nt move or make one effort to put her dogs in the house. The new person the dogs focused on was CLEARLY uncomfortable and didn't know what to do with these 2 tiny dogs leaping all over her. So I walked up got a hold of both of them BY THE SCRUFF and walked up to the woman, dogs in hand and told her she really needed to put them inside and showed her what the did to my legs. You should have seen the look on her face when I walked up with both of her dogs..priceless to say the least.

LOL!! I hate when dogs do that. My aunts dog did that all the time...drove me crazy. Never made me bleed though, that must have been pretty bad. Sorry for the stupid people, but maybe they got the point!!

I see this ALL of the time. People can't seem to think outside of their own relationship and romantic notion of their own dog. Whether the dog is lounging and snapping, twitchy and weird, or just plain all over you...they minimise, rationalise, dismiss, avoid, or give excuses for these bad manners and behaviors. All they care about is their own interaction with that dog and how it makes THEM feel...nothing else and noone else matters.

It's pretty much the same way with the how some folks relate to and raise their children...it's all about THEM. They forget that their job is to help make both their kids and their dogs functioning, stable members of society who are welcomed anywhere.

At least humans grow up and make their own choices, which a dog cannot.

So sad, and ultimately so selfish.

Ouch, ouch, ouch!!! I know the feeling and yes, I've been around dog owners that don't do one thing to correct the dog from jumping all over people. Another person not getting the dogs trained!!!

ITA. The dogs do it because of the way the woman reacted -- laughing. I'm sorry that they scratched your legs. I scar easily so that is definitely a bad thing.

Eeek! That had to have hurt! I'm had that happen to me. My cousins pom has the sharpest nails and jumps ALL over you when you come over.

Denali is pretty bad about jumping when people come over. We tell her to get down, and let them know to tell her "stay down" and 9 times out of 10 she will.

Yikes! What was that lady thinking.

When I know I will have people coming in and out of the house I keep my dogs in either their kennels or yard. Or if I have someone coming over that does not like dogs I put them out back ( I have one friend who was attacked and is just freaked out by dogs).

I would not allow my dogs to behave like that when meeting someone(not to mention appologize if they did), and if they did they would immediatly be put in time out because they have been trained not too act that way when greeting guests.

I hate dogs jumping up on me. I dont mind them having a little sniff to familiarise themselves to me though.
I would love to have seen the look on her face when you pranced up with her little darlings lol

Just good manners should have made her have her dogs confined if she was having a garage sale,, by the way did you find a bargain?? I love garage sales

I always find a good bargain, but I didn't buy anything from her, just because! My husband is always amazed at what I can bring home..

I thought for sure the woman was going to start with me for getting her dogs by the scruff. I was prepared...but she just stared at me and took the dogs. hahahahaha!
