Poor Puppy.. interesting story!

Well some of you may have noticed my post in the "When is some force necessary?" thread in the "Debate..." forum about the aprox. 14 week old rotty pup...

Well, if you remember how I had mentioned she was very skinny, and not very energetic... we found out pretty much why today.

My mom and I saw the little boy Chris walking her, so we went outside to say hello. We petted her and then I walked with Chris. My mom gave me some kibble (new food - my mom wanted to feed her a little bit cause she's so skinny) and she loved it of course. She would swallow them whole though, which worried me because she seemed very hungry. Well, I decided to hold my hand out with the whole handful, and she LITERALLY inhaled it all! I was like "My goodness, this poor dog is so hungry!" So we started walking, and Chris saw one of his friends walking so he asked me to hold Lilly's leash while he went up there. So I walked her and she went poo, I checked it, everything was okay. My mom was comming around the corner, and Lilly squated again, this time, some white slimy lookin thing came out, I went to look and it was a worm! I was like "OMG! MOM COME HERE!" She got a bag and picked it up, the worm was alive and moving, but it was HUGE!! So my mom took it over to our vet to show them, the vets said they had NEVER seen an adult tape worm that big, in their whole practice, especially from a puppy! My mom was livid because of the way they have treated this poor pup (didn't have shots for her before - we called AC and they informed them and 'supposedly' got shots) My vet said she's surprised when they took the puppy in for shots, that they didn't do a fecal exam. So she told us to inform her that the puppy NEEDS medicatioin or it WILL kill her. If she is not treated soon she will not live very long... Poor girl, we went over and talked to the kid Chris' mom, and she was understanding. She said she is taking her in tomorrow if her vet can, or Monday at the latest. She might even take him to our vet, cause they're open till noon on Sat.

But I noticed, when we walked back to my house, she all of a sudden was acting like a puppy! She wanted to run around, she got the 'zoomies' and was rip roarin' through the yard, chasing after Chris, playing tug of war with him with the leash, she would run at me full speed and she just seemed to feel better once she got that worm outta her butt!

You're probably all guessing about how long the worm was... well.. you may not believe it but....

It was 2-3 fett long! and about 1 inch wide!
My vet said if she has an adult that big, and she's passing them through that she is more than likely infested with them. She is assuming Lily has had worms from the first day (makes you wonder about the breeder...) and that she needs to be tested for heartworms as well.

I feel so bad for her... she said she is going to let us know how things go... she seemed understanding, I just hope she means what she says...

*sigh* okay I'm done 'venting'/yapping. I just felt the need to tell someone!

Oh my Gawd!!!! That's terrible. I hope they take care of that pup. Why would someone spend money on a Rottweiler and go through all the puppy stuff and not take care of them? I know some people are like that, but it's beyond me. Well, let us know what you find out. Poor puppy.

I have no idea why people do that either...

She said that it would be a big help if I could train her, which I've already been doing. She's very smart, very bright and alert...

I'll be sure to keep you updated...

The only thing is that this family had to be told by many neighborhood dog lovers, that their dogs needed shots. They were kinda like "Duurr". A friend of mine down the street, went to talk to them, and told them that they need to get shots for their dogs... and the father was like "Shots? For what?". So they still hadn't done anything about it... so my mom called Animal Control. They had to be told my authorities to have their dogs innoculated.

Sad if you ask me..

She said she had been checking her stool, and never saw anything, and she noticed she was just hungry all the time. When Chris came and told her about the worm, she thought he was exaggerating about the size (who woudln't?) but she found out for sure when my mom and I went to talk to her.

Like I said, I just hope they mean what they say...

I saw Lilly not too long ago... she's going into the vet today!

Hopefully I will see the little boy walking her later on today or tomorrow to find out how she did.

So what are we looking at here? Do you know? Was it a tape worm or something???
Have you gotten any info about what (specifically) that dog has?

Well haven't seen the little kid yet... probably see him tomorrow.

My vet said it's an adult tape worm, and she's probably infested with them. She may have heartworms too, so she should be tested for those as well...

Saw Lilly today, she went to the vet and is on meds. She looks so much better in just 2 days difference! She already looks like she is putting on some weight, and is happy to see everyone now! She used to be so shy.... but she wiggles her little butt, and gives you kisses all over. She tries to get the zoomies when she's out on a walk, and will sniff the ground, then take off running till the leash stops LOL

I'm glad to see she's doing better! I'm probably going to be working with her some more either tomorrow or MOnday... Gunna work on 'down' some more, and 'roll over'. She knows the word 'sit' like its an instinct One thing I notice with her, is when you call her name, she looks straight at you... I had done it a few times with her, and when I would call her name, and she looked at me, I'd give her a treat and tell her "good girl!". Boy did she catch on quick!

I wish I could have her..... LOL
