Yes, when i woke up this morning, my parents were talking about it. It is a horrible death considering he was good with handling all types of dangerous creatures. V_V And to leave his family is sad. Imagine how they feel right now...I wonder is they'll continue the show but only with Terri?

D:

A stingray barb is a stick-like projection found on the tail of a sting ray. They are very poisonous, and seeing that it stung him in the chest may be a reason why he died from it so easily (closer to his heart). They can still be deadly when stung anywhere else, I think it just depends on the individual.

Here is a photo of a stingray

These guys can get HUGE ---

My family and I have caught many of them while fishing. We make sure we step on their tail because they whip it around and it can catch you easily. Some people cut the barbs off, but I think that's cruel. It's the animals only means of defense.

The latest news report I heard said the barb went right into his heart & they feel his death was instanteous. I just feel so bad that they made this tragic event public to the world before Terri was able to be notified

I found out last night and literally couldn't get to sleep, I was so distressed. I'll keep his family in my prayers - it just makes me so sad.

I agree. I think that was very wrong for them to broadcast this while his wife is in Tasmania thinking she'll come home to her husband. I'd be devastated to be watching the TV and see that all of a sudden, my husbands name is in the headlines and has the word "died/dead".

That is so sad and particularly tragic for his loved ones. Good thing he didn't suffer long.

When I heard about him passing I was shocked. I meen I still can't believe it. He did wonderful things thru education, spreading the word on animals no one cared about or even knew about. I loved watching his show, he will be missed. I'm glad he passed doing some thing he loved and I'm sure he's swimming with the crocs' in heaven as we speak. My heart goes out to his family, especialy Terrie and his kids. Such sad news.

It feels like I knew him personally because he was so personable on TV, and you always saw the whole family, too. My heart just breaks for Terri and the kids. I wish there was a way to send them a note or something.

You know it's even worse because normally those stingray barbs aren't fatal. His companion that was on the boat at the time said it was really bad luck to have had it kill him. For the barb to go into his heart was just improbable. It's tragic, really. He gave so much.

Thats what I was thinking but I don't know where to go or where to send a note. I guess I'll look for a fan club site or maybe Animal Planet has a tribut to him on there.
*EDIT* : On Animal Planet click on the banner for Steve and it'll take you to his page. On a collum to the right it has a link to their forums where you can add your condolences.
There is also a tribut to Steve on Animal Planet at 6pm ET/PT.
