I am so heavy hearted for him family. I can not/ will not imagine what they are going through right now. And that poor little boy who will never know his father.
So sad.

When I heard the news at work yesterday my first thought was that it was a hoax. I still can't believe he's no longer here... Steve Irwin seemed like a really great guy and it's sad to know that we've lost one more person who was trying to do so much to save our environment.

I feel deeply sorry for his wife and kids, I can't imagine how they are coping with such a loss.

Sadly his death wasn't instant. The tape (he was filming a segment for his daughter's show when it happened so it's on tape) was viewed by police down here and he actually pulled the barb out of his chest and the medical team on board his boat worked on him for a while but he died before he could get to hospital.

Anyhoo...Australia Park has become a shrine and I tend to agree with the morning radio crew in my area...his daughter Bindy will end up taking his place. She's already well on her way to becoming the new croc hunter. I'm glad his legacy will continue.

Cass.

My heart breaks for Bindi, That little girl LOVED her daddy so much you could always see that in how they acted together. She is definately going to be something GREAT Cass. And poor little Bob who will never know his dad other than videos and pictures. My heart is just so heavy for them and his wife. RIP Steve, America loved you as much as your hometown down under! I will miss you!

That's so sad. I read the news Monday (yesterday) and I was shocked. I guess you never really expect such risk takers (such as he, I guess you could call it) to actually face death. I felt so bad. At such a young age too. His poor family...my prayers are with them.

What a great loss for Australia and the rest of the world. His conservation efforts were his life and he did everything he could to educate people.
I'm sure God will have a special place for him!
