Exclamation Dog forumaholics anonymous

COME HERE FOR THE HELP YOU NEED.

Hello, my name is Carrie. I am a dog forumaholic. I am coming out of the closet. I am sick and tired of making excuses, hiding my addiction. I have made excuses to my friends and family who cannot get a hold of me on the phone becuase I have only one line. I have lied and said things like, "Oh, gee....I think I left my computer on all day by accident." Or, "I was talking on the phone." Everyone hates me and when they get me on the phone they go on and on and on about how they can't get a hold of me, that trying to get me on the phone is becoming a full time job to them. This is becoming the main topic of conversation with these people. I'm beginning to resent them. And it's ALL my fault!!!

Another manifestation of my addiction is that I am reading, talking and writing more about dogs and training than I am training my dogs. I think I have some pretty good ways to do things, but I'm finding that I'm not doing enough of them. I have my dogs lying down near by and I read to them, but they need more practical experience.

Help!!!!!

HAHAHAHA..... I think that I, too, have to admit that I am a dog forumaholic! Although, in my case, I see nothing wrong with it!

LOL! Hello Carrie glad to meet you. Welcome to DFA...
Ways to know you're addicted:
1) You come to a forum first thing in the am
2) You think about the forum even when you're not on it
3) You make excuses as to why you're always at the forum/online
4) You post a DFA topic in a dog forum...
5) You find yourself here at all hours..
and there is sooooooooo much more...add if you may..lol

Well, My2Swissies......then I think you're still in denial. Keep coming to the DFA meetings. Someone will be able to get through to you, I'm sure. LOL.

LOL .
I've said it before and I'll say it again," I, Nichole am a Global Paw junkie." I think we should hold a meeting to discuss this addicting disease. This could kill me :shiver: . I'm on here all the time. Day or night, working or not at work. I sometimes don't eat or sleep. I dream and think of the things I am going to write about. I wonder if I will get a response.
When I am at home, the girls jump up on my lap and try to distract me from the computer screen. They are sensing my addiction. They know!!!!!

Ya know I too love this forum but ya have ta keep it in prospective. The forum is not a place ta train or have time with your dog what good is it if ya can't do anything with your animals. This is a place where ya can talk ta other people bout what ta do or what your dog/cat is doin they can't be doin to much if you are on here 24 7 so get off and spend some good time with your animals they miss ya. Hey they say tough love isn't pretty GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

Your post is hard to read!!! LOL!!! My tongue and mouth are moving while I read but you should hear the sounds that are trying to come out. The ya and ta comes out sounding like when I was trying to learn to speak Czech. Everything gets stopped behind my tongue. LOL. (just got ta give ya a hard time. I'm in a joshin' mood)

Well, you're right about that. My dogs don't have enough time with me. I'm retired and I've ruined them. We only go on a 2 to 4 mile hike everyday in the wilderness of north Idaho with their cousin, Eli. They only get to watch one TV show in the afternoon....Murder She Wrote during lunchtime with me on the couch with them and a few TV shows in the evening. They have to watch and not participate in house cleaning chores. They participate in making the mess, but don't help me vacuum or wash windows.

The little ones have to take turns sitting on my lap while I type. The big black boy can only lie down beside me and chew on his toy and the Lab....well, she couldn't care less as long as she can rest up in preperation for her walk. The big black Doberboy has to wait till mid morning for a little training practice and has to wait for me to go in the garage to work on projects, X-mas wreaths and such. (his favorite place to hang out with me) There's fertilizer and horse stuff that he can get into, potted plants in for the winter that he can root around in. He can watch me climb up on my ladder into the loft and see what I might throw down to him. He has a lot of fun in the garage.

But you're right. What do they get out of my being on a dog forum? Hmmmm....that is the question. I will have to ponder that for a while. LOL.

I can stop anytime I like. In fact, I stopped for 12 hours last night.

Therefore, I am not addicted.

(And my dogs are probably thankful that I'm not showering them with attention constantly.)

edit: OHMYGAWD Carrie you have over ONE HUNDRED more posts than I do! This can't be right... LOL!

Nichole you aren't the only one, trust me. I have a hard time being away from the boys for too long.I just missed out on a 4-day road trip to San Diego with my friend in her Corvette, because both boys couldn't come. I would have gone crazy in a car with NO DOGS to pet.

My name is Matt and I too was a dog forumaholic. I would wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat and reach out for the keyboard at the side of the bed. Shaking in the morning from doglerium tremors. I was a 30 posts a day man before I realized I needed counseling, my family tried to help me but I was beyond redemption I had modems hidden under the sink and in cupboards all over the house.

I would frequently haunt Internet cafe's staggering home at the early hours of the morning so inoculated I would have blisters on my finger tips from all the keys I'd hit that night.

I'm still fighting the battle. Day after day cold turkey, if it wasn't for the mayonnaise I think I would die, even now I am having a relapse and ask myself everyday will I ever be free of this doglema. I can only wish you the best on your quest.

I'm forumaholic! I wake up every morning, before I go to school, and come on... I come on right before I go to bed, and I'm always on when I'm online.

My boyfriend gets mad because he says I talk on here more than I talk to him... LOL

I'm the same way animallover. I can't stand to be away from my poochies. When we only had Sheiba and Sarge, I couldn't stand to be away from them, so we took them on a 11 day trip to Texas, in a car LOL well.. more like a van.

My mom actually bought the van to accomidate our family (don't like little cars) and because we had the dogs LOL

*sigh* it's just a nice place to be when no one is home, school is out, or you're out of work.. a place to come and relax. If only it provided back/foot massages

I understand, Icey and Animallover. I posted about having to work for a month over a hundred miles away and stay in a litte hotel room and I have the option of letting my parents keep Boone for me, but there's no way I could go that long without my pup. No way.

Yup....they need to know how to be resourceful and that they're not ALL that. At least we need to fake 'em out a little on that one.
