Pepper sprayed.
My best friend was visiting another friend the other day. Her and her 2 year old daughter and the other friend were standing talking on the front porch when the mail lady came. The mail lady walked up to the door (which had the screen with the window raised to let the air in), and the dogs started barking. The mail lady must have paniced or was startled or something, and frantically started spraying pepper spray everywhere.
For the most part, the pepper spray landed directly on my friends 2 year old. The screen had protected the dogs from any harm, but both of my friends and the mail lady all got a taste too. My buddy ended up having to take her daughter to the hospital to get checked out. The irritation to her eyes had really done an number on her. Not only that but the mail lady shouted out after spraying the stuff that...."I can taste that *$(*%#@ stuff". "Good" language in front of a toddler. I am appauled by the actions of this mail lady. There was no threat to her, and she ended up harming a young child in the incident. The post office was contacted, and the mail woman has been suspended until this can be sorted. What the heck eh? Case of mistaken pepper spraying. I'm just glad my little "niece" is ok, what a scare. |

I don't know if maybe this mail lady had some previous issue with a dog before or not, and that's why she went a bit crazy, but still, she shouldn't be in a job where dogs are around a lot.
Good suggestion Calgal, maybe the mail room is a better place for her. |

OMG! That's horrible! I wonder if your niece will grow up hating mail ladies. (women) That one was certainly not a lady. I think I'd be very close to a law suit. That is just awful. I hope your little niece is OK.

Actually, I think I would lodge a complaint against her. Silly woman, couldn't she see a child was close by? I really hope your neice doesn't have any long term problems with her eyes.... they are so fragile at 2.

The mail carriers policy with dogs always baffles me. If they had any common sense they would go out and buy one of those huge bags of cheap treats and give them to any dog along their route who barks at them. They would eliminate 95% of their problems with dogs, but instead they take a strict policy towards spraying a possible attacker first and asking questions second.
Sorry about your niece, glad she is ok. |

That's what my UPS man does. He comes up in his truck and tosses treats out onto the driveway. My dogs think he's great. Reward always works better than punishment.

Carrie - that is what I love about many of the drive thrus around here, they always have a box of treats for dogs. I even find my self going out of the way a little to visit a place that gives treats over another that doesn't.
It just always makes me laugh because even the least educated trainer could tell a mail carrier why they cause dogs to freak out, and it is such a simple fix... |
