Halloween Safety Tips

Since it's October I think it would be great if everyone shared some Halloween safety tips for our furkids

1. Keep your pets indoors on Halloween; preferrably in a room away from the front door.. For black cats; keep them indoors a few weeks before and after.

2. Keep candy for the kids in a container with a lid.

3. Never leave a candle unattended.

Turn the lights out and go to a drive in movie.

Good idea calgal, but we don't have drive-ins here anymore. And I don't think the local theatre would want my two hanging out during a movie.

Here's another tip: If taking your dog trick or treating with you, do not bring him to the front door with you. The homeowner may not appreciate dogs. Have someone stay with the dog at the end of the walkway.

A good flashlight couldn't hurt either.

Funny story... When I was about 6 years old, my mom bought my brother and I these flashlights with red and blue twirly top things... We would set both off in the back seat just to hear her swear and pull over. She finally took them away from us and gave us real flash lights... LOL

I live so far out in the sticks that we get maybe one or two trick-or-treaters... Which doesn't hurt my feelings much; I get what's left over.

That's the best part of Halloween!

I want to set up the house again - I like handing out candy. I know of a few friends who are still going to trick or treat, but I don't find it amusing anymore. I like dressing up and staying at the house to watch all of the kids come through in their cute little costumes.

Be sure to check all the kids candy before eating it! Be sure to throw away any candy with open wrappers, or that look suscpicious!

We used to stay home and give out school supply's instead of candy. We sat outside so no one would ring the bell. We put the doggie fence up, put the dogs in and gave the tricksters bits of dried liver to give them. It worked perfectly except for one small detail. Most of the kids did not like their treats and some even threw them down and stormed off. Spoiled brats would rather have a penny candy than a nickle or dime pencil or eraser. I think kids should go to Halloween party's, dunk for apples, have games and prizes and lots of nicer things to eat. It's much more fun for them. That's what we did when ours were little anyway. We just called it quits and started taking the dogs out either for walks so they can see all the gobblins, or to a drive in movie.
