Just because it shows how little they know what does that mean? It is stupid to keep calling them--you're not going to change anything--as long as they have a market they are going to keep on with their business which is selling puppies. I have enough problems in my life without visiting WOC's website and it making me madder/sadder. For all of those of you with so much time on their hands I implore you to do something to really help out overpopulation like visit your local shelters and volunteer to bathe, walk, clean poop or anything for the homeless dogs there. At least you will be making a physical difference in some animals's life.

Of course they don't know much. That's obvious just looking at the site. However, the people you're chatting to I'll bet have nothing to do with the dogs. They are simply paid to deal with custumers.
It's a waste of time and helps no one. They don't feel bad about things after a conversation with you. They couldn't care less.. because the next person they talk to is going to be a real buyer and at the end of the week they'll get their pay cheque.
If you want to attack WoC...go for the owners and the breeders who supply them. Not the sales people or the website (which is probably maintained by some third party).
Or do your best to educate people about them and the harm they're doing.
Or, as Vonissk said, spend your energy helping the dogs who end up in shelters.

I mean, you can do what you like.. it's none of my business, it just seems like an extremely useless and childish thing to do. A way of making yourself feel superior to the staff at WoC, rather than actually helping the dogs you care so much about.

Cass.

I find their puppy mill page quite silly and full of half truths and misinformation.

What the heck is this... from their site...

wlk7 (095-621-895) $10,000.00 female BIEWER YORKIE tiny toy - very very rare - outstanding markings - she's a German Yorkie - she's absolutely adorable - gorgeous coat - very cute also (5-27)

I'm sorry I ever read this thread and went to this page. It's a good thing I live so far away.

They didn't even spell Weimaraner correctly, and I'm horrified that they even have some! The pictures alone show that they are underweight and horrible conformationally. AND it says they have beautiful blue eyes... whats the owner going to do when they change by 6 months, which they will, to amber!

Yeah, it's horrifying isn't it? I'm glad I'm in Australia, but we have people just as bad down here. People that were, for a long time, endorsed by a well known celeb. *sigh* They're ACA Breeders. They fron't as 'responsible breeders of cross breeds', but of course that's ridiculous. They also harp on about 'hybrid vigour' which is a load of crap.
No matter the country... these horrid people are everywhere.

Cass.

All too true, sigh.... What are they doing to our beloved dogs. If they really cared, they wouldn't be doing this, so no matter what they may say, their actions speak much louder than words!

AS long as they are close to there standard weight not like way under the weight!!
Furry Angel, the problem with not breeding to standard is that if everybody only bred "close enough to standard" then there'd no longer be a breed. Take the toy poodle for example, if everyone started breeding loosely so that soem breeders had dogs 4Lbs below the standard and other breeders had dogs 4Lbs over the standard that's an 8Lbs difference which, for a small dog, is HUGE!!!! You no longer have a "toy poodle" at al but rather some sort of small poodle - not a distinctive breed.

Also breeding outside of the standard could actually end up making the breed uncapable of fulfilling the job it was once intended for. Like if a doxie owner started breeding doxies with longer legs they couldn't properly go down badger holes anymore

Ha I find this laughable (this is off of that ACA webiste.)
Quote:
Over the years we have often been asked for breeds such as a "medium size dog with a certain coat type", and the range of pure bred dogs is quite limited.
Ya, right. Limit. There is what...about 200+ breeds in the world, not to mention all of the mutts in shelters. Limit. Uh uh, sure.

Quote:
We have chosen to cross several different breeds of dogs to create 'designer' breeds which will give owners more choice of size, temperament and coat and introduce the hybrid vigour of crossbred dogs.
And you can't get that in a shelter because....why?

The conversation I posted here was in December. I don't remember chatting with them since. I can talk to them if I want to .

I realise that. I was just pointing out that energy could be better spent else where, since chatting to these people serves no purpose.
