Hello I was just making a suggestion...You know at every small town or even large town kennel there is always a "Drop Box" were ppl just take their dogs or cats and just leave them...does anyone but me think that you should have to check your dog or cat or whatever animal you have into the pound instead of just leaving it there like garabage? Just wondering on all of your opinions..!~~Ashley~~!

Actually I like the idea of the drop box, tons of people who plan on dumping their dogs choose a back road or something of that nature so no one can see them do it, at least with our local shelter that is the whole reason behind the drop boxes so that maybe some of those people will drop them off where they'll be cared for and possibly adopted rather than dumped at the side of a road or worse.
There is a card in every "box" with basic info that they can fill out such as the animals name, any allergies or known medical problems and things of that nature so that maybe they can have a little bit of info on them rather than nothing at all if they would have been picked up as a stray. |

I think if they HAD to check them in, then fewer would be brought to the shelter, and more dumped in the middle of nowhere. Some people don't want to be bothered, or don't want to admit they are dumping an animal, in their eyes, much better to take the coward's way andt drop after hours, and answer no questions. I know a lady awhile back, got a black pug from the shelter, had been dropped off at the drop box. She was there with dead puppies. She herself weighed only 10 pounds, was blind, very sick. I bet that if they had had to "check her in", they wouldn't have.. she would have been dumped in the boonies or along some road, and most certainly would have died. She barely made it as it is, but as of now, is doing so good. She's beautiful.

Very true for some, I know a few of our surrounding counties that don't have the drop box do get some tied outside to be found in the morning.

They have the same thing for HUMAN babies! A person can leave their baby at a church, hospital, police station, firehall, etc...no questions asked! It's better than finding a baby in the dumpster!
Makes me sick really, that ANYONE would dump a baby! |

I've been one of the unfortunate officers to have to deal with those dump little ones in dumpster amongst other places and strongly support the efforts being made to allow mothers to leave their babies somewhere safe.
Now if we could just get the same for older children I'd be a really happy camper. |

I don't think there is really anything wrong with boxes...crossfire is right, so many people choose horrible places like in the middle of the woods or on the side of a road. But if they have boxes available, there's a good chance they'll use that instead.
