dogs learn from humans
My fiance and I will often play wrestle. A lot of times I head-but him and hell just pick me up and put me on the couch. We NEVER hurt each other but we can seemingly get pretty rough.
Tonight I was playing with Kino. Since its really cold outside for me we were inside. I dont like playing "rough" with Kino in the house, but he loves to play, and it was too cold outside for me. well tonight Kino Head-butted me! it was kinda funny, but I realized he learned it from us. He also will run and jump and my fiance and expect him to catch him. what has your guys' dogs learned from you? |

Well....the only thing I can think of that the dogs do that they learn from me is that often when you stick your face right in a dog's face and/or hold the sides of his cheeks in your hand (an affectionate thing that we do with kids sometimes) they hate it! To dogs that can really come off as an aggressive act.
My little Jose use to look very nervous when I did that. It's a good way to get bitten. Well, finally, he seems to understand that it's just one more weird thing that humans do and it's different language than his, but he's ok with it now. Lyric has never had a problem with it. He seemed to know right from the get go that I was being affectionate and he just lays his ears back and looks all lovey. The other dogs don't care either. So, some of our body language means one thing to us and another thing to them. We can both learn from eachother sometimes I guess. |

Blackie has learned to open his kennel latch by watching us. We've had to put a lock on it now so he won't nose it up!
lol Rose is kinda learning how to do it by watching Blackie. She's tried to nose it up before but she doesn't give it that much 'umph' so it never makes it all of the way up. |

Good heavens! That's a scary thought. LOL. But nevertheless, pretty impressive.
I had a horse that could open the latch on her stall. You had to lift and slide. There was hardly anything to get a grip on. Those sensative muzzles are incredible and the teeth. LOL. She got into the hay one time and I accused someone of leaving her stall door unlatched. I was TICKED! "WHO LEFT THE STALL DOOR OPEN???!!!" Then it happened again. This time I snapped a lead rope in the hole of the latch to keep it from moving for double security. She was a smarty pants, that one. |

One of my late dogs learned how to dispense ice cubes! LOL She would jump up on her hind legs, push the dispenser with her nose, and grab the cube in her mouth. It was really cute...but annoying too, because there would be puddles of water all over the floor from melted ice cubes!

I just remembered a story about one of my Dad's dogs when he was young. It was a German Shepherd. The family would all have an ice cream cone and this dog was given one too. It would lie down and hold the cone between his paws and just lick it like people did instead of devouring it like dogs usually do. LOL.

To make sure to have your ‘window lock’ on at all times. Cora and Copper know how to open my car windows. Copper taught me this lesson with a $650.00 emergency vet bill. I always had a fear that I would pull away forgetting one of my girls or one of them falling out. My fear came true this past August. I was driving to the Dog Park on a Sunday morning with my windows less then halfway open and every couple minutes watching them in my rear view mirror. As I approached the Dog Park (with my fiancée following behind me in his car with Sable) I had turned on to the gravel pathway to the park. I parked my car and went to my trunk to get the “dog park bag”. I had noticed…wait I will rephrase that, ‘what I thought to be Cora and Copper moving side to side to each of the back windows. I continued to get what I needed. My phone rang and it was my fiancée telling me he had Copper and was on his way to Animal 911 . I was in complete shock . How could I not notice one of my girls missing? What had happened was, as I was turning onto the gravel pathway that lead to park, Copper had opened the window and as I was turning she fell out of my (moving) car window:shiver: . The night before I had gone out with a friend and had switched the lock button to unlock . I never even heard or saw her fall out. When I went to my trunk, I thought I saw Cora and Copper. But it was just Cora going side to side really fast (she gets so excited). We arrived at the emergency vet and a couple of hours later, I had picked her up. No broken bones! Her injury : Deep wound with a tore muscle located on her right rear patella, which took 8weeks to heal. I am forever grateful that I still have her and she was and is okay.It Could have been alot worse! I have learned my lesson and as far as the vet bill, that would never get in the way of a life . My fear and nightmare had come true, and since I have bought them doggie seatbelts. |
