Yeah. I'm afraid that happens a lot. Chains, strings, ribbons, etc. Usually something is put around a puppy's neck and as the puppy grows, the skin is broken and it heals around the object. It sickens me.

I've taken in several rescues with collars imbedded in their necks....how hard is it to check a collar? I'll never understand people.

It is sick, but common. I got a letter from the ASPCA with a picture of a starved Doberman at the top . Apparently he was chained out all the time, only had a puddle to drink from, then it dried up. His owner had deliberately starved him.

I also heard a story of a family that found a full grown German Shepherd with a puppy collar imbedded in his neck....they kept him and loved him, he ended up saving their lives during a fire...sensed it and got them out safely, along with their other pets. Pretty amazing.

Yep.....I can't believe somebody could be that heartless.....I had that same letter from the ASPCA too....it was really sad....at least he had a happy ending.....
Something a little bit differnet was on Emergency Vets and this little kid had put a rubberband around her dogs neck (she didn't know it would hurt the dog) and the Mom finally figured out what the child did and took the dog to the vet. That little kid looked like he felt so bad....

Gosh....when I put a rubber band on my rist it doesn't feel good....I'd never even dare put one around my neck! Poor dog .
