This is a tough one. If it's your dog (or child for that matter) you'd want to raise him/her the way you want. Your parents should understand this. But, it really depends on the situation at hand. We weren't there to see exactly what happened so saying it's out of line is hard to do.
Was it a light tap or a swat? |

If some one hit my dog I would of definatley told them them not to but if they were just looking like they might thats a different story then i would of told her just to verbally correct my dog not just hit it is will most likely listen to you (my dog gets her feelings hurt when i scold her then she pouts all day and wont do anything for me LOL).

If someone hit my dog, whether it was my mother or not, i would be alittle upset, maybe more than just alittle upset. Couldnt she have just grabed her dog and taken him in the other room or something. Thats what i always do, even if its the other dog making the confruntation, I take Kaide by the collar and tell him to come with me, not punishing him, nor praising him. Its not my place to punish someone elses dog.
However, i remember being only 14 years old, and my moms big golden retriever ran after someone walking there dog, mainly they were on the edge of our yard, if you have common sense, and you see a dog way bigger than yours, well really no matter what size, you dont walk him into the dogs yard, anyways being only 14 this lady was yelling at me to control the dog, yeah right, like im gonna be able to hold 70lbs dog, but I ended up telling her off cause she told me she was gonna call the dog cather. My mom wasnt very happy with me that day... |

If it were my current dog being corrected by someone else...I would scream abuse in their face until they cried. Jesse is old, toothless, sick and very submissive. You mess with my boy, you spend the rest of the week in serious pain!
But... If I owned a younger, larger dog I would accept others correcting him/her on the condition they did it the way I wanted them too. But if I hadn't spoken to them about it before hand I would be extremely upset if they even thought about doing it. UNLESS....the situation was immediately dangerous for animal or human. Then and only then would I (reluctantly) accept what ever correction they used. (did any of that even make sense? lol) I agree that you should sit down with your step-mum and talk to her about it. Perhaps explain to her how you correct your dog and ask her to, if the situation arises again, use the same method? Cass. |
