Question "Toys and Amazing Jaw Power”.

Okay, I am having some trouble finding some toys that my girls don’t chew up or tear apart within an hour (give or take). By no means am I looking for something to keep them busy for hours. Do you have any recommendations? I have tried the following;

*I buy rawhide bones (good quality ones) because they love those! The problem is, I have to take it away after they chew about halfway. Otherwise, they will get diarrhea.
*I have bought different kinds of Kong’s and filled them with either treats or the Kong filling. They seem be interested in this for a little while. Again, have to be careful with the amount of treats and Kong filling.
* Recently, I bought the ‘Treat Ball’ where you put treats in it and as they play with the ball, treats will dispense every now and then.
*Stuffed animals- they will tear them open in a matter of minutes.
*Plastic toys they rip apart and tear in pieces. Have to be careful of them swallowing pieces.
These are mostly all things that included treats. Too many treats are not good thing.

Don’t get me wrong; I play with them a lot. But Cora constantly has to be doing something. Am I being too strict or paranoid ? I understand that these are toys that are made to be played with, chewed, and keep them entertained for a period of time. But, they have such strong jaws it only takes a matter of minutes. Is this normal?

Thanks . As mentioned below I have that. My concern is- how many treats to allow then? Should there be a time limit?

How about the Orbee toys? I've never seen one destroyed before, even my Shiner girl (who had the jaw power of an APBT) couldn't chew up her orbee bone. And you can get balls and "hockey pucks" made of the same material.

I got mine at a pet store but you can find them at www.planetdog.com too.

how much time do you spend with your dogs?? Are you home all the time, or does you job allow you to have dogs, if so maybe you could train your dogs to have a job or do something, if your dog neesds to do sumtin all the time she is a WORKALHOLEIC.. any way
Some of thease toys are really hard nt plastic , maybe you shoudl bye your dogs thease big hard balls or just look at them To me they look real durable.

Okay, here to be helpful (or at least try):
Kaida the boxer has a powerhouse of a jaw (popped a tennis ball once!)..
anyhow the toys that we buy her:
1. the "Invincible Chain" (a rubber interlinked 3 link chain) this thing truly lives up to its name! we can drag her around by those stupid links! they are tough and on occassion she will just lay down with it and chew on it... nothing, barely even a toothmark! supposedly its inpenetrable!
2. we also bought her a solid rubber "rhino bone". so far proven to be a good toy, has lots of toothmarks but certainly not "garbage-worthy" yet.
3. that treat ball... we have one too, actually I think ours is called a Buddy Cube? it looks like a big blue die (as in the singular form of dice ??), anyhow, we just put 1/4 of her dog food in it and let her go nuts! she still goes after it and gets all excited when a "treat" pops out! (we feed Canidae and its small enough for this-but as just a treat, maybe put some "Chicken soup" dog food in there, it'll be small enough if the two toys are comparable).
4. we also have one of nylabones "big chew" toys (I think its the ham bone or something) that thing sounds like they're eating the house when they chew on it, but its hangin' in there too!
Good luck with your girls! (mine cant have anything plush either)

There are extra-tough Kongs, for active chewers. I have never tried these--my girls aren't very aggressive when chewing unless they can't wait to finish this thing off .

And the Galileo.....from Nylabone...ah, there are also some toys....they have velcro attached to the legs, arms, head and (if there is one) tail. They dog can rip these off of the rest of the body, and its not a wreck--you just slap it back on.

Bailey has a big rubber jack (like little girls play with) and it has a rope threaded through it so she can carry it or in her case drag it. She isn't very interested in her kong unless it is stuffed either. I put a little canned dogfood into it and freeze it. It takes her forever to get all the food out and I take the amount of canned food away from her normal daily food intake so she isn't getting extra food. She just has to work harder for it.

She also has a ball that has little feet on it and little devil horns. She loves to drag it around by the feet and throw it up in the air. It's the only ball that she has that she plays all buy her self with. I don't have to play fetch with it.

Also check out the Jolly Ball at petsmart.com Since you have big dogs it would be safe for them. I don't recommend it for tiny dogs. I had to take Bailey's away from her because she kept getting her feet stuck in the holes. She really loved it though, I just wish they made a smaller one for dachshund sized dogs.

This is called a "Bad Cuz" they are cool/tough toys but dont buy it unless you are prepared for an OBNOXIOUS squeeking nose... really... it's a terrible sound! (they make a "Good Cuz" too, its white with no horns).

Isn't this a toy that was originally meant for horses? Anyhow, if it's the one that I'm thinking that it is, these are great toys! They are supposedly "unpoppable". And since there were originally meant for horses, they tend to be flavored/scented (the one that I saw was Apple).

Dakota has a Good Cuz, I got it for him because of his insane love of squeakers. I put it up after 3 days of almost non-stop squeaking. That's a toy that I will give to him when he's home alone in his crate.

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions ! Looks like I will going shopping (for my girls that is.)
BTW- I don't know who did it but when I came out of the shower two red girls went hiding. Leaving evidence on the bedroom floor of a book that they apparently couldn't read so they decided to shred it themselves. Maybe they were tring hint that they want a new bed
