OK I accept that. I dont live in England, I have european background and perspective and I see the type of hunting against which protest are held as traditionally upper class entertainment. Could it be that those who are not actually wealthy and are pro hunting have Hyacint Bucket style aspirations?
Or do they actually wish to kill the fox no matter how? This I would understand. I recently shot the fox which terrorised my birds for years. I needed my dogs to do that. Without them I would not have had a hope. They cornered the fox, covered all escape routes and then let me deal with it. English style fox hunting is a picnic compared to bloody pointless massacres this fox has caused. Some thirty birds perished and most were left behind to rot. I had no guilt trip at all. If hunting is illegal what is the proposed alternative. Is there such a thing as hunting without actually chasing fox? Just riding hard with a lot of noise. I heard there is. I am hijacking this and I apologise. |

From what the hunt followers have told me it's about tradition and being able to do wht there fathers grandfathers etc did - what they forget is as a society we have moved on and what was considered ok (bear baiting, dog fighting etc) is now considered cruel and not needed any more. They also state when faced with the cruelty issue they don't actually catch many foxes which throws the pest control arguement right out of the window !

So,if tradition is all it is and if hunting is outlawed on cruelty grounds, they can still ride hell for leather and blow their trumpets providing they are not chasing anything. They can paint themselves with ketchup. Dogs will love it anyway.
Foxes will then obviously be dealt with in different ways, such as traps and poison. It would be naive to imagine farmer putting up with carnage fox can cause whatever the law says. Unless of course the government/taxpayer will reimburse him for the loss. It is hard for me to see why the argument escalated. |
