Despite the tireless efforts of Florida's animal advocates, Amendment 4, which allows for the installation of slot machines at certain southern Florida dog racing tracks, passed on November 2. "This is unfortunate for both Florida's greyhounds and greyhounds across the nation," says the ASPCA's Sherry L. Rout, legislation liaison for the southern region. "Amendment 4 creates a blueprint and a precedent for recovery, and a means for propping up dying racetracks nationwide."
