Good Snacks for your dogs
I was wondering what a good snack would be for my (somewhat chubby) Wesley. I have heard the apples and carrots are good for dogs...is that true? And would that be more healthy for him, instead of dog biscuits or extra kibble? Any other suggestions of things I could mix in with his food so that it is not purely kibble? He is not 2 yet, so he still needs puppy nutrients, right? Thanks!

I mix in yogurt in my kids kibble. I also make my own dog cookies.
Here's a good link to treats: http://www.globalpaw.com/dogtreats/index.php |

Baby carrots are great for your "chubby" dog. Our dogs all love ice cubes...we start giving them ice cubes when they are puppies...helps with teething, keeps them hydrated, and keep their teeth clean! Our vet now recommends them to her other patients after seeing how well they work with our gang. And no calories!!

Novel, do you use normal green beans or the low/no sodium ones? If I remember right, canned veggies are pretty high in sodium. Then again, it's probably not enough to matter that much.

annie - What you might consider doing is portioning off a bit of their food and use it throughout the day as treats. That way they are still getting the same amount of food and everyone is happy. Plus if you lab is like every other lab on the planet any kibble is just as good as any other food you might throw their way

Every once in a while I give Harley carrots, and he loves them. He really needs to lose some weight as well, so carrots are a great healthy snak (much better that dry dog food for treats).
