Thanks Grace, I'd really like to see that poor dog...I've always joked about them "creating" stupid "Bordadoodles," but I never really thought about how I'd feel when I found out that $@#%*! idiots had done it!!!

Ugh. I can't find the BC/Poodle mix, and I just don't want to go through all the border collies again just to find it. I'm casually browsing now, if I find it i'll let you know. the trouble is that it didn't have poodle as its secondary breed. I'm going to do a google search and see if they are really doing that or if this dog truly was an accident.

I have been in love with Border Collies ever since I got my Tip girl, who is mostly BC, with a little bit of GSD and possibly some Husky mixed in
. I have learned a lot about the breed over the.....um....few years that I have had my girl, and I'm a big fan of the BC. It truly upsets me that people do such things to dogs, especially high-energy breeds that need not only lots of physical exercise but mental exercise! For example, do you remember when I mentioned the idiot board (in H&G!)? Where someone wanted a BC because they "amaze her"? (BTW, that girl had a Lhasa Apso...) Gosh did people get upset--one has a Border another a Doxie/BC and then a purebred BC. All I was doing was protecting one of my breeds. I don't want the wrong breed to fall into the wrong hands. I do have quite a few tips for any BC owners, one being to spend time around the breed for a few months, exercising etc. before you get one--hopefully that'd help people realise that it may not be the right breed for them; maybe its too high-energy, or has too much of a coat. I am really upset right now. No, not cryin' or anything, but my heart aches for these poor dogs....I wish there weren't so many idiots in the world.... |

I've learned a lot about the breed in the, uh, 4-5 months I've been looking for and owning one, and in that short period of time I've found the breed that I think I will have for the rest of my life.
And if there is any breed that is one of the worst possible choices for a "fashionable pet" or an impulse buy, it's the Border Collie. This goes completely against the idea of breeding mixed breeds and advertising "the ultimate family pet - bring one home today!" I do my best to educate people about the Border Collie every time someone bends down and says "Ohmygosh this is the cutest puppy!" while they are petting Dakota. That might be the problem, BC pups are just so darn cute and fuzzy... ![]() |

RedHotDobe, does that pet store near you happen to be called "Today's Pet?" They have one where I live, too. I think they have them all over Maryland. You're right, the puppies are disgusting!
My friend bought a puppy from Today's Pet a couple of years ago(I didn't know anything about puppy mills then...I told her about them, but she's denying the fact that her dog was probably very poorly bred). Now, every time she drags me into that store, she always goes over and talks to the people who are considering buying a puppy. She always urges them to buy the puppy (OMG it's SO annoying!!!! ), and then as soon as she walks away, I go over and tell the people all about puppy mills and how pet store puppies are really hard to housetrain. |

One of the guys that works there hates me, so I can't really go in there without being followed around by him. Oh well, one more person I pissed off. ![]() I bought this poor, sick little rat from there once. They were selling her as a feeder, but I don't think her poor health would have been too good for a snake's health. I did end up having to have her put her to sleep though. ![]() |

Rip's Girl,
Not at all. I was implying that the owners refused to believe their dogs came from irresponsible breeders and that they were proud of where they acquired their dog. Heck, I have a byb-bred dog. Although he was not bought by myself, he had one of those "breeds every summer/breeds dogs that don't look like their breed" breeders. At least, that's what I've been told. Anywho, I am proud of my dog even though he came from a shoddy breeder. Sorry if I confused you, but ya gotta remember- My Peke was from a byb, too. I would never say anything to downgrade my severe underbite/half-Tibbie lookin/bulging eyed/jutting nosed/flat eared/20lb Peke I still love the breed, and I'll probably buy a show prospect from the Windmere kennels and/or buy a show prospect from a TSCA breeder (Tibbie). It's just really discouraging and depressing to see the outcome of being a 'cute' breed. |

OK, just wanted to make sure...
I, too, would never say anything bad about my undersized, straight-hocked, bug eyed, roach backed little sweetheart. lol. I pick at his conformation constantly but I love him. Despite my BAD experiences with papillon breeders, both irresponsible, rip-off BYB and rude, condescending, insulting and snotty show breeders, I still love the breed. But, I must say that if I ever want a Papillon again, I will be buying from a PCA breeder here in Phoenix (one of the few nice, REPUTABLE, non-condescending show breeders I have spoken to) I guess it's a case of "love the dogs, hate the people". I will never, ever show papillons because of the attitudes of the show people and I have no desire to buy a pup from someone I don't like, so it will either be a pet quality dog for me or a rescue. It is sad what happens to the "cute" breeds. ![]() |

I've had Tippy for about....er....4 and 1/2 years. At first I knew absolutely NOTHING about Border Collies except that they were herding dogs. I have learned a TON about BC and am absolutely in love with the breed, though I am, of course, very protective of them!!I know....I don't think anyone can resist a Border Collie puppy--they're just soooo adorable, from the little tip (ha ha) on the tail to the fuzzy coat and adoring eyes....geesh, my girl isn't even purebred yet I've got people going, "AAAAWWW!" (luckily, at least if I remember correctly, no one has ever asked what "breed" she is.). Some day I think I'd love to get a Border Collie pup, but I'd wait until I had a lot of time to exercise the dog....a tired Border Collie is a good Border Collie! LabLuvver....found out there is a Petland here.... !!! |

Oh man, I never knew about this dogster site until I read this thread. I just checked it out (good gods... bordoodles?!
). I was browsing and didn't find anything too bad, until I found this american eskimo dog that the owner claims is 2 1/2 yrs old and has had 3 LITTERS already. Poor thing, thankfully they seem happy to announce that it's her last litter, but still.... 3 litters in 2 1/2yrs?? *sigh* Cass. |
