While on a walk..

While I was taking my GSD aussie girl for a walk the other day their was someone walking her dog. It was a toy although I don't remember what breed.

My babys heeling perfectly, and we're all the way on the opposite side of the road. Shes walking up the road, I'm walking down.

And when she was about to pass me about 20 feet away, she picks up the dog and carrys her, until she's about 30 feet away from us. Jeez.

Wha???! She is afraid of your dog! That's annoying. I have the honor of people not stop talking to me about my dog on walks.

How rude! However I get that alot with my boxer. But thats probably cause hes snarling and growling and barking with his hair all up on his back. I know for a fact that he wouldnt ever hurt anyone, however, he likes to think he's tough and people believe it. And might I add, dont like it very much either.

When I had my newfies, I was walking them one day and this woman came around a corner on the opposite side of the road, took one look, turned around and ran and started grabbing car doors to try to get in . She must have had on a Channel suit and was afraid of slobber...

As the owner of a small dog, can I just say that perhaps it wasn't your dog that could have been the problem.
Toy dogs are famous for having the attitude of a large dog and some can have terrier like temperaments and then you have to take into consideration the fact that there are large number of toy dog owners who don't socialise their dogs well so the dogs get dog aggressive.

A toy dog can want to start a fight with a dog 10 times its size, so she 'might' have been trying to prevent her dog going crazy at the sight of yours. Don't assume that she thought your dog was the problem.

Cass.

Cass is right, I will pick up Chloe on occasion while walking. The reason I do it is because while she's not dog aggressive, she does try to carry on a nice conversation with other dogs. She talks like a fool, and it can be quite annoying for the other dog owner. She once was labled "a little yappy dog" by a women passing by with her lab/mix. She actually said to her friend "I don't know how anyone can stand having one of those little yappy dogs". So it's just easier sometimes to pick her up.

I have to agree with Cass on this one. While I own large dogs also, and have had it happen to me MANY times before, I now share my household with a toy mixed breed. Anytime she sees other dogs or people, she likes to bark-bark-bark. So, we have to take her inside, distract her, or pick her up. She is very well socialized, she just has the attitude of a big dog. Her barking often times gets larger dogs riled up. Trust me, she's tried it with a pitbull LOL

Now, had they said something rude to you or about your dog, that's when I would say they step over the line.

I had some guy ask me what breed Sarge was. When I told him Boxer/GSD he said "Oh wow, he must be a mean dog" I said "No, he's not" While Sarge was happily sniffing the ground and paying no attention to the guy. When Kelso was just a pup and others asked what he was, they instantly told me he was going to be aggressive and no one should own him. I kindly told them that it's all in how you raise him and that his breeds really have nothing to do with it (as long as you know what you're doing).
